Beat Gaming held their first invitational featuring a host of top teams. Let's see how they all fared when competing for a share of 7500 USD.

The BEAT Invitational featured 8 teams; Cloud9, Code7 (formerly Gale Force eSports), 1SHOT Esports (in the place of Luminosity Gaming), Northern Gaming Red, Team EnVyUs, Team Liquid, and Rogue were all invited, while Splyce managed to qualify for the last spot. The finals featured Code7 and Team EnVyUs duking it out in a best of 7, so let's take a look at how the teams got there.

Just as expected

EnVyUs looked incredibly dominant throughout the entire tournament. In total, they dropped only a single map to Northern Gaming Red, but managed to win against Rogue 3-0 and Code7 3-0 during the bracket stage before the finals. It's fairly telling of how strong a team is when Northern Gaming Red can feel happy about taking just a single map. Talespin and chipshajen looked exceptionally on point throughout the tournament, and their Pharah and Mercy play respectively was incredibly crisp.

A pleasant surprise

If you asked someone to predict the finalists of the BEAT Invitational, most would have chosen Team EnVyUs and Cloud9. Code7 managed to shatter everyone's expectations and come out of the tournament looking very solid. They took down Cloud9 twice in close sets (3-2), showing everyone that they can perform under pressure.

Team EnVyUs was very dominant in grand finals, where they took down Code7 4-0 to win 4500 USD. It says a lot about a team when one of the best hitscan and DPS players in the world can feel they played poorly and still come out of a tournament only losing a single map.

Despite their success against Cloud9, Code7 fell twice to EnVyUs. They had some moments of brilliance in the grand finals, but defeating the reigning top team in the world proved to be a tall task. Still, in the finals, harbleu managed to have some great Roadhog play, while NicolasTJO had some superb Pharah play. Unfortunately, matching up against EnVyUs managed to be too much, but we'll definitely watch this Code7 team continue to improve in upcoming tournaments. Additionally, we will see if Team EnVyUs can maintain this dominance, given their 35 match (and counting) winstreak.
