How do you get a house in Starfield?

The Starfield housing system is very similar to that of one of Bethesda’s other major titles, Skyrim. In a Discord Q&A session with Lead Designer Emil Pagliarulo and Lead Quest Designer Will Shen, it was stated that you can own a house in “all the major cities in the game” and different cities will have different methods to get one. Some houses can simply be bought with credits, while others are only available through rewards from specific quests.

Dream Home trait

If you can’t really be bothered saving up or going through a whole quest line, there is an easier method to get yourself a house right from the start of the game. One of the many available Starfield traits is the Dream Home trait. Selecting this trait during character creation will give you a house from the start of the game, although you’ll also be saddled with a 50,000 credit mortgage to pay off, too.
