But, the events and lots aren't all City Living has to offer. For Sims looking to make a difference in the world, there's no better place to start than with the Politician career. There's plenty of work to do if you want to climb to the top of the political ladder, but it's all worth it for the public glory and sweet career rewards.

Politician Career Overview

The Politician career introduced in the City Living expansion pack lets your Sims become national leaders and organize charities. They join politics, trying to secure votes and support causes of their choice.

This career is great for Sims who are social and have great Charisma skills.

There are two branches of the Politician Career: the Politican branch and the Charity Organizer branch. The Politician branch makes more money overall, but Charity Organizer has less work hours.

You can choose to join the Politician career by going to any computer and choosing Career. From there, choose Find a Job and scroll down until you find Politician.

If you don't have a computer, you can choose the job on your Sim's phone, too. Open your Sim's phone, choose the orange Business app, and pick Find a Job.

From here, you'll begin your journey into politics.

How To Get Promoted In Early Politician Career

The best way to get promoted is to complete your daily tasks and improve your Charisma skills.

As soon your Sim joins the Politician career, they'll be asked if they want to get a jump start on their assignment. Click OK to select a cause to support. Or, you can click on your Sim, choose Political Career, and select Pick Cause.

Your Sim can choose any cause to promote, and it won't affect their ability to be promoted.

From here, you can click anywhere and choose to protest for your cause anywhere. Doing this for a sufficient amount of time will complete the task.

Starting at Community Organizer, your Sim will be able to start giving speeches at podiums to promote their cause. This is very effective, so do this instead of protesting.

Your Sim can increase their Charisma skills by performing social interactions with other Sims, although it's easier to simply practice a speech at any mirror.

How To Get Promoted In Politician Branch

You'll need to continue working on your Sim's Charisma skill to get promoted. A good way to do this is to be in a Confident mood when your Sim practices in a mirror. You can now also use podiums to practice speeches, too.

An easy way to get your Sim to be Confident is to have them brush their teeth at any sink. This will give them a Confident moodlet.

Besides Charisma, your Sim will also want to secure votes with Sims around town.

To do this, go up to any Sim and choose Political Career. From there, you will see the option to Secure Vote. However, if your Sim is a stranger or on bad terms with the target, this won't work right away.

Instead, choose other interactions in the same menu, specifically Promote Policies, Debate Politics from either side, and Make Empty Promises. Make Empty Promises is unlocked when you get promoted to Councilperson.

You can also give speeches at either the Rostrum Station or the PODUS objects to inspire crowds. Both can be found in Buy Mode under Activities and Skills > Miscellaneous. If you get a crowd, this will also help you be more likely to secure votes.

These will build rapport and relationships with the target Sims and make it more likely that your Sim will successfully secure their vote.

How To Get Promoted In Charity Organizer Branch

Just like the Politician branch, keep increasing your Sim's Charisma level.

Along with increasing Charisma, your Sim will need to collect donations for their cause. You'll start by only being able to collect §25 donations, but as you level up higher in the career, you'll unlock asking for more Simoleons.

Similar to securing votes, your Sim will want to rally Sims behind their cause before asking for donations to be more successful.

You can click on any Sim, choose Political Career, choose from Debate Politics from either side, and Promote Cause to build a relationship with your target.

You will get pop-up notifications during political interactions to let you know if a Sim is interested in your cause or not. When a Sim is interested and likely to donate, you'll know from these notifications.

Use the speech podiums, the Rostrum Station, and PODUS, on public lots to give speeches. If you attract a crowd, they will get inspired, and you'll be able to secure donations from them.
