Summary

  • Bethesda just dropped a brand-new Doom: The Dark Ages trailer, giving us a better look at the Doomslayer's arsenal.
  • The highlight by far was the BFG, or really, the BFC. To complement the fantasy backdrop, it's now a crossbow, but it's as devastating as ever.
  • We see it fire a green-hued bolt at a horde of enemies, turning them into paste while sending the stragglers flying in all directions.

Ahead of Doom: The Dark Ages' launch next month, Bethesda released an action-packed trailer that shows off the Doomslayer's medieval arsenal in all its gory detail. And kept to the very end, right after the giant Kaiju fights with oversized demons, is a reveal we've all been waiting for — the BFG.

Or, I guess I should say, the BFC, since it's a big fu**ing crossbow. Just like in past games, it emits an enormous green energy ball that eviscerates enemies in a hail of lightning strikes, sending body parts flying in all directions.

We don't get to see much of the BFC-9000 (or whatever it ends up being called) in the trailer, but that blink-and-you-miss-it carnage says more than enough. Even a Hell-bound Doomslayer, stuck using old medieval equipment, has found room for the series staples, turning an ordinary crossbow into a weapon capable of shredding through entire hordes.

Every Weapon Confirmed For Doom: The Dark Ages

After a handful of trailers and previews, we now have a pretty good idea of what the Doomslayer will be using to rip and tear in this long-awaited prequel.

There's the super shotgun, a staple since 1994, the already iconic boomerang shield, a skull crusher that turns bones into bullets, the plasma rifle (a mainstay since the OG), a flail, and a nailgun that would feel right at home in Quake.

But in the new trailer, we also got to see a gothic RPG decorated with a blazing-eyed skull; a Painkiller-esque chaingun that fires a giant metal ball; and, of course, the big fu**ing gun itself.
