The Golden Sturgeon, a tavern by Novigrad's docks, plays host to a surprising number of The Witcher 3's quests. During your many visits to the watering hole, you may come across a man looking for a witcher just outside its doors. He has an interesting proposition for Geralt; he wants to find a black pearl in the seas around Ard Skellig and needs the witcher's help to get it.

While the premise is simple enough, the execution may not be as easy as it may appear. If you're not as skilled a pearl hunter as you are a monster hunter, this guide will give you a hand before you drown.
Where To Start Black Pearl
You'll find Black Pearl's quest giver, Nidas, at the Golden Sturgeon, west of Hierarch Square in Novigrad. He's standing by the stairs at the tavern's eastern entrance and is marked by a yellow exclamation mark.
He explains that he wants to find a black pearl to give to his wife as a gift. While he knows where to find one, he isn't fit enough to dive into the ocean and search for oysters. If you agree, he'll tell you to meet him at the broken bridge north of Arinbjorn.
You won't be able to meet him until you unlock Skellige in the quest Destination: Skellige. If you are early in the game, it may be best to wait until Geralt's investigation in Novigrad is complete before sailing off.
Where To Find The Black Pearl
In Skellige, you'll find him exactly where he said he would be, on the islands separating Eldberg Lighthouse from Ard Skellig. He's already at the correct place, with the valuable oysters in the ocean.
You'll have to do the swimming here. The oyster in question is furthest from the shore, on the seabed. While difficult to spot, you can use Geralt's Witcher Senses to detect the object amidst the sand.
There is a pair of sirens in the sea that will attack you. Be prepared to shoot them with a crossbow if they get too close.
Once you've got the pearl, make haste back to the shore. Nidas is being attacked by drowners, lured to the beach by the splashing. When you get ashore, you'll have to kill the drowners before he dies. The quest will fail if he perishes.
Despite Geralt's success, payment will have to wait. Nidas had left his purse in Novigrad and will have to return home to pay Geralt, assuring the witcher that his work will be compensated.
You'll find him at the Golden Sturgeon, where he tells the truth about his search for a black pearl before paying Geralt 10 crowns before the quest ends.
