Rayman fans really aren't happy with Ubisoft's blockchain-based Captain Laserhawk game, especially after the Twitter account jokingly claimed it could do whatever it wanted with the character.

Although it's been a long time since we've had a proper Rayman game (Legends and Origins, I miss you), the last few years have at least been a bit of a turning point for our vegetable thingamajig. Not only did Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope get a dedicated Rayman expansion in the form of Rayman in the Phantom Theatre, but we also got a... unique take on the character as part of Netflix's Captain Laserhawk show.

Although it seemed at first like Captain Laserhawk was butchering Rayman and turning him into some edgy adult version of himself, fans actually quite liked how he was portrayed and have been wanting to see more of him in a potential second season of the show. Well, that's absolutely not what we're getting next.

Captain Laserhawk Game Twitter Account Says It Can Do Whatever It Wants With Rayman

Earlier this week, Ubisoft quietly shared a new trailer for Captain Laserhawk: The Game, which is a "transmedia gaming adventure" that utilises web3 and Arbitrum’s blockchain technology for a top-down shooter that also offers "ultra-rare prizes from your favorite IPs". If you can't read through that, it's basically an NFT game, and not what fans were hoping to see from Captain Laserhawk.

Considering how long Rayman fans have been waiting for a proper new game or at least a second season of Captain Laserhawk, they haven't taken too kindly to their favourite platforming mascot being used to drive something as controversial and planet-damaging as NFTs. This was shown perfectly by Twitter user RaymanTogether, who called it out as being a "middle finger to the Rayman community".

To make matters worse, the official Captain Laserhawk Twitter account responded to one of RaymanTogether's tweets and said, "It's a Captain Laserhawk game, not a Rayman game. Anyway, Rayman belongs to us, we can do whatever we want with him...even replace him if needed". The Twitter account is clearly trying to be in character (as shown by its other tweets) but that hasn't stopped fans from getting annoyed.

Almost all of the reactions to Captain Laserhawk: The Game have been calling it out for its use of NFTs and Rayman for something that no one wants. Considering how fast NFTs and blockchain projects died off last year, it's a surprise that Ubisoft is still going through with it - especially now that it's attracted the wrath of the long-starving Rayman community.
