The Wasteland is full of junk, but junk is valuable to the economy of your Fallout Shelter. And some junk, like the legendary Giddyup Buttercup, is vital for building the best weapons and outfits to keep your Vault Dwellers safe and happy. But despite being in every house in prewar America, Giddyup Buttercup is now in short supply.

Legendary items are never easy to find, even the junk. So if you want to gear up your Dwellers in T-60a Power Armor and Gatling Lasers, you're going to need a guide. Fortunately, we've got everything that you need right here!

What Is Giddyup Buttercup?

Giddyup Buttercup is a legendary junk item. It's classified as a steel-type junk item, along with the lower-rarity Desk fan and Shovel.

In Fallout lore, Giddyup Buttercup was a popular mechanical toy horse produced by Wilson Atomatoys, which later went on to produce landmines for the Great War.

Giddyup Buttercup is one of the few prewar consumer products still in production, as the aliens from Fallout 3's Mothership Zeta are shown producing them in all assorted sizes.

How To Find Giddyup Buttercup

There are four ways to add Giddyup Buttercup to your Vault inventory:

Quest Rewards

A few quests, such as My Metal Pony, will always award a Giddyup Buttercup upon completion. We've compiled a full list of these quests for your convenience.

Quest

Wasteland: The Musical

Scrap Legendary Equipment

Breaking down unwanted weapons and outfits will get you a handful of the junk needed to build those items. Since Giddyup Buttercup is used to craft legendary items such as the Accelerated Gauss Rifle, this can help you turn unwanted equipment into the pieces you're after.

Check your crafting recipes before breaking down any items if you're looking for a specific piece of junk.

Scrapping equipment is not guaranteed to yield junk. Sometimes you'll break down your high-powered weapons and get nothing in return.

Open Lunchboxes

Lunchboxes can be earned during quests, rewarded for completing Objectives, and bought in the in-game store. Each lunchbox contains five items, from bottlecaps to legendary Dwellers.

The fourth item is always junk, and there's about a 4.6 percent chance that it'll be a Giddyup Buttercup.

4.6 percent is a little lower than 1/20. Buying lunchboxes in an effort to get a specific legendary junk item isn't recommended.

Find Them Randomly

Dwellers you send out to explore the wasteland will occasionally find legendary junk, including Giddyup Buttercup.

Perception is the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat that affects the quality of goods found in the wasteland, so train up your perspective explorers in your Armory and equip them with a Heavy Vault Suit for the best chance of finding legendary junk.

This method is slow, and after several days of exploring your Dwellers may still not find the junk you're looking for. However, you can send several Dwellers at a time, and can keep sending more until you have enough Giddyup Buttercups to start your own robotic ranch.
