The GOG platform, known for its DRM-free gaming focus, initiated a project back in June to reintroduce classic Resident Evil titles for PC gamers. Teaming up with Capcom, GOG is reviving the first three games that initiated the beloved series, ensuring full compatibility with modern hardware.

The original PC version of Resident Evil, released in 1997, made its debut on GOG in June, followed by Resident Evil 2’s 1999 PC port in August. The next addition is the 2000 PC version of Resident Evil 3, which has just been announced.

GOG and Capcom have officially revealed that this re-release will launch on September 25 at 8 AM UTC.

Taking place just hours after the events of Resident Evil 2, this third installment puts players in the role of Jill Valentine, the iconic heroine from the original game, as she navigates the zombie-infested streets of Raccoon City.

The GOG version of this classic game includes several enhancements:

  • Full compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11.
  • Localized versions in six languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese).
  • Inclusion of Mercenaries Mode.
  • Enhanced DirectX game renderer.
  • New rendering options such as Windowed Mode, Vertical Synchronization Control, Gamma Correction, Integer Scaling, and more.
  • Improved graphics engine initialization and restart processes.
  • Upgraded video subtitles.
  • Refined options dialog interface.
  • Smooth task switching without issues.
  • Better visibility for the mouse cursor.
  • Comprehensive support for modern controllers (including Sony DualSense, Sony DualShock 4, Microsoft Xbox Series, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, Logitech F series, and many others), ensuring optimal button mapping regardless of hardware or connection mode.

You can now wishlist Resident Evil 3 on the GOG store in anticipation of its September 25 launch. It is expected to be priced at $9.99, similar to the earlier re-releases of the first two games. Additionally, there’s a bundle featuring all three titles available for purchase for $24.99.
