Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Guide: Complete Walkthrough for Thou Art But Dust Quest

Navigating the eastern region of Kuttenburg in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 leads players to the intriguing Sedletz Monastery, a peculiar gravesite tended by devoted monks overseeing the resting places of the deceased.
To unlock a side quest tied to this location, players should speak with Brother Morticus, who can be found sitting beside a grave. His request for assistance, shrouded in poetic hints, invites players to help restore order to the graveyard by gathering the scattered remains and tidying up the area.
This comprehensive guide will provide you with a detailed walkthrough for completing the “Thou Art But Dust”side quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Walkthrough for the Side Quest: Thou Art But Dust
Locate Brother Morticus just outside Sedletz Monastery to commence the “Thou Art But Dust”quest. His earnest plea is for help in gathering the bones scattered within the chapel and cleaning its interior. Fortunately, this task is quite manageable, as bones can be collected in stacks, similar to looting from a typical shelf or chest.
As you enter the chapel, take care to avoid the trapdoor located centrally in the room; it serves as a one-way exit you should postpone visiting until after you’ve completed your initial explorations and collections.
The chapel itself presents a desolate sight, with its shelves and floors strewn with remains waiting to be organized.
Begin your clean-up efforts anywhere you prefer by interacting with the various piles of bones scattered throughout the chapel and examining the shelves lined with skulls.
For every skull you gather, you will need to arrange them into designated pyramid formations located on the chapel floor. Be mindful that your inventory can fill up quickly, so feel free to start placing skulls at any time under Brother Morticus’s guidance.
Building the Pyramid of Skulls (0/32)
The northeast corner of the chapel holds a designated spot for normal skulls. Here, players should aim to deposit 28 skulls.
Constructing a Pyramid of Cracked Skulls (0/32)
The next pyramid, found in the southeast corner of the chapel, is reserved for cracked skulls. You should have 26 cracked skulls to deposit here.
Forming a Pyramid of Thigh Bones (0/272)
Finally, at the base of the main entrance, you will find the pyramid meant for thigh bones. Aim to place 239 thigh bones in this location.
Once you’ve arranged these pieces, you may notice some remains are still missing. These can be located in the crypt beneath the chapel, accessible through the trapdoor in the room’s center.
Proceeding Beyond the Trapdoor
To access the remaining bones, interact with the trapdoor, which will lead to a short cutscene where Henry tumbles down. Fortunately, Brother Morticus will conveniently send a torch down for your guidance.
Inside the crypt, your mission is to collect all the bones found. Start by exploring the large room on the east side of the crypt teeming with two piles of bones to loot.
Next, navigate to the similarly spacious room on the south side, where two additional piles await—one directly adjacent to the door and the other a bit further down on the left.
As you progress, you’ll come to a door that will lead you out once you’ve finished looting the crypt. Additionally, check the west side for another small room with one last pile of bones.
Once you’ve gathered everything needed, exit through the previously encountered door and follow the tunnel, leading you outside to an area southeast of the chapel.
Back in the chapel, you should be ready to finish arranging the pyramids. Any bones collected in excess should automatically be removed from your inventory upon completing the pyramid deposits.
Once all tasks are completed, step outside and search for Brother Morticus. To your surprise, you’ll discover he can’t be found, having already passed on.
Engaging with a fellow grave tender will reveal the somber truth: Brother Morticus died long before Henry sought his assistance.
Completing this side quest grants you Craftsmanship experience, and you will be commended for your efforts in restoring the chapel and crypt at Sedletz Monastery.
