Blades of Fire: A Narrative Game Where You Choose Your Level of Knowledge

Exciting Insights into Blades of Fire from MercurySteam
MercurySteam has been actively revealing new information about their upcoming title, Blades of Fire. Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen the game unveiled, learned about the PC system requirements, and watched captivating gameplay footage. Now, in a recent interview with Gamereactor, co-founder and game director Enric Alvarez delves into the intricacies of the game’s narrative structure.
A Narrative-Driven Experience
While Blades of Fire offers players remarkable freedom, it is fundamentally centered around a robust narrative. According to Alvarez, the strength of the game’s storyline is heavily reliant on its characters, emphasizing that a compelling narrative cannot exist without well-developed personas. The intention during story development was not only to present a linear narrative through cutscenes but also to cultivate an organic storytelling experience that reacts to the player’s level of engagement.
Curiosity-Driven Storytelling
The game introduces two intriguing mechanics featuring the character Adso, where players can engage in conversation at any moment. The first mechanic allows players to inquire about mission details, resulting in responses that provide a glimpse into Adso’s knowledge. Players will discover that the information is often vague, mirroring the character’s limited understanding.
The second mechanic lets players delve deeper by asking Adso about specific topics, such as the forgers, master forgers, or newly encountered characters. This interaction encourages players to embrace curiosity and actively participate in uncovering the game’s narrative layers.
Embarking on a Journey of Discovery
In Blades of Fire, much of the story is not handed to players; instead, it is a quest that requires active pursuit. Gamers will encounter unique and eccentric characters throughout their journey, each offering distinct perspectives and surprising revelations that enrich the overall experience.
Release Date and Platforms
This highly anticipated fantasy action/adventure title is set for release on May 22 for PC (exclusively via the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. With just over two months to go, players are eager to immerse themselves in the rich world that MercurySteam is crafting.
