EVE Online Unveils Exciting Expansion: Legion

At the much-anticipated annual EVE Fanfest in Reykjavík, CCP Games has officially announced the upcoming expansion for EVE Online: Legion, promising to redefine how players engage in the galaxy-spanning MMO adventure.

Empowering Players with Freelance Jobs

The introduction of the Freelance Jobs system marks a significant shift, allowing players to take control of their destinies within the vast universe of New Eden. This innovative feature enables capsuleers to connect with player-run corporations at their discretion. From the outset, players can pursue custom jobs created by others—be it logistics, combat, or industrial ventures—laying the groundwork for establishing their identity within a corporation. This initiative not only provides a clear path to enhance one’s reputation but also integrates players into the epic player-driven wars that have characterized the EVE experience for over two decades.

New Ships: The Babaroga and Sarathiel

As expected from a major expansion, Legion will introduce two formidable new ships. The first, the Babaroga, is an advanced Triglavian Tech II marauder that features entropic disintegrators and a bastion module capable of delivering substantial damage in sub-capital engagements. The second new addition, the Sarathiel, is a rapid and robust dreadnought from the Angel Cartel, renowned for its ability to inflict immense long-range damage with unique bonuses to projectile weaponry. Notably, the Sarathiel is the only dreadnought in the game that can effectively utilize a Capital Micro Jump Drive while in siege mode, offering strategic advantages in fierce battles.

Enhancements to Corporation Identity

Continuing the theme of player customizability, the expansion includes a new Corporation Palette, allowing groups to adopt a unified visual aesthetic, empowering them to fly under shared colors that signify their alliance and identity in the cosmos.

Collaboration and Game Balancing

Notably, Legion has been developed in collaboration with the player-led Council of Stellar Management. This expansion will also implement essential balancing adjustments to cruisers and capital ships, along with an enhanced mapping interface. Additionally, Omega clones will benefit from increased Skill Points through the AIR Career Program, accelerating their progression and readiness for battle.

Insights from the Creative Team

Bergur Finnbogason, Creative Director of EVE Online, stated: “With Legion, we’re opening a direct path to joining the fight in gaming’s largest war: the record-breaking space-spanning conflicts that can only be found in EVE Online. Freelance Jobs give anyone, regardless of experience, the power to fleet up, earn rewards, and shape the future of New Eden.”

Snorri Árnason, Game Director of EVE Online, remarked: “Step up. Right now is the time to assume your role as a leader and take command of EVE. With Freelance Jobs and fresh blood entering the battlefield, the power to expand your influence and define your legacy has never been greater. Unleash the might of two new formidable warships to break open the frontlines and seize control.”

Looking Ahead: EVE Vanguard and Future Events

During the Fanfest keynote, CCP Games also hinted at the forthcoming release of EVE Vanguard, a first-person shooter set to launch in Steam Early Access in summer 2026. Ahead of its official debut, players can participate in a public test event named Nemesis on September 16, 2024.
