If you’re wondering if you can still play CS:GO after Counter Strike 2’s release, we’re covering everything you need to know here.
Counter Strike: Global Offensive, first released way back in 2012, instantly became a fan favourite tactical shooter. Nearly 11 years on from it’s launch, it’s now getting a port to the Source 2 engine. Counter Strike 2, as the new game is dubbed, will render CS:GO useless.
So, with CS:GO soon to become redundant, there’s still a fair few people out there concerned with whether or not the game is going to be playable following the release of the successor. Now that Counter Strike 2 has been officially released, let’s go over what we know.
Will you be able to play CS:GO after Counter Strike 2 releases?
CS2 is going to replace CS:GO in your Steam inventory entirely. Counter Strike: Global Offensive is now completely unplayable online, so you won’t be able to play it ever again. There are a few exceptions. For example, the Xbox 360 servers are apparently still live. You can also load up a CS:GO beta via Steam, though you’ll only be able to play with bots.
If you had Counter Strike: Global Offensive in your Steam inventory, you may have now noticed that it’s been replaced entirely by Counter Strike 2. While it’s sad to see CSGO go, CS2 is going to be overhauling it completely for the better. With an updated engine and enhanced tick rate, the maps will be translated across meaning that nothing’s really gone.
You might be worried whether or not your CS:GO skins are going to carry over to CS2, which we know is already the case.
Honestly, gamers won’t have time to really mourn the burial of CS:GO as they’re going to be thrust head-first into Counter Strike 2. When it does eventually launch, you’re going to want to make sure to get rigged up on the best graphics settings for CS2 so that you never miss a shot due to your hardware. Alongside that, our CS2 tips and best CS2 crosshair codes will have you set up fully.
