A reliable Star Wars insider has claimed that Star Wars Outlaws was supposed to get six expansions instead of just two, as Ubisoft thought it would be "WAY more successful than it ended up being".

There's no game in recent memory that's been quite as unfairly received as Star Wars Outlaws. The first-ever open-world Star Wars game had its issues at launch, sure, but a combination of being at the centre of a culture war and a general open-world and Star Wars fatigue meant that it never got the attention (or sales) that it really deserved.

Over time, Outlaws has started to be looked back on more fondly as gamers got around to giving it a chance, but it's never going to be enough to make up for the damage. After Outlaws launched, it was reported that a sequel was cancelled due to low sales, but it turns out there might have been even more in the works that got shut down

Star Wars Outlaws Was Meant To Have Four More DLC Packs, Insider Claims

Yet Another Sign That Ubisoft Expected To Strike Gold

Over on Twitter, reliable Star Wars insider FivesWalker, who has previously shared insider information about a variety of Star Wars projects, teased some "tea" about Outlaws. That tea turned out to be that there were allegedly six DLC packs planned for the game, with one of them being a direct tie-in to the Low Red Moon novel.

Of course, that isn't what ended up happening at all with Outlaws, as it only got two DLC packs, the Wild Card DLC featuring Lando and the Pirate's Fortune expansion with Hondo Ohnaka. Both were story-focused, so it stands to reason that the other four expansions planned for the game would have been of a similar scope.

I'm sad about what happened to Outlaws, but surely six expansions is a little much to expect from any single-player game?

FivesWalker points out that this plan is because Ubisoft expected the game to be "WAY more successful" than it ended up being, which was a fair assumption considering how massive Star Wars was at the time. In the end, though, that didn't matter enough for Outlaws to be the hit that it probably should have, and now we're just left wondering what was planned for Kay and Nix.
