A Nintendo Fan Has Traded In A Near Complete Set Of Amiibo To GameStop, Of All Places

Summary
- A Nintendo fan sold a near-complete collection of Amiibo to GameStop for $1,340 in store credit.
- The retailer gives on average about $5 per figure, with some as high as $9 and some as low as $3.
- Had the customer not preordered Donkey Kong, their trade in estimate would have been lower due to an in-store promo.
One of gaming's best and longest running memes is about how little trade-in credit GameStop will give you for your most precious valuables. It's a tale as old as time. You walk into GameStop with a litter of goodies and walk out with enough money to buy a McDonald's Happy Meal, if that.
In the latest example, someone traded in a near-complete collection of Amiibo and walked out with $1,340 in store credit, a figure that would've been lower had they opted for cash.

PostsIf You're In Arizona, You Might Be Able To Complete Your Collection
As shared on Twitter by the GameStop account, a gamer in Arizona traded in their prized collection of Amiibo to a local GameStop store for trade credit.
According to the GameStop trade-in website, which provides live values for everything you can sell to the retailer, most Amiibo will net you $5 in credit or $3 in cash. A few are worth a bit more at $7 or $9, and a few are worth a bit less at $3, but outside a few heavy hitters like Bowser Jr., you won't get too much.
CloseThe gamer, who also posted on Reddit about their trade-in, said they were traveling and in university, making the storage of tons of Amiibo just not feasible. What's more, had they not put down a $5 pre-order deposit on Donkey Kong, their store credit would have been just $1,100 due to a trade-in promo towards the game.
With the credit they received, they pre-ordered and paid in full the upcoming Switch 2, plus some other unnamed things. A private sale would likely have netted them more, and also cash and not credit, but GameStop was the more alluring option it seems.
So long as they're happy with their decision, that's all that matters. But GameStop isn't beating the trade-in allegations or memes anytime soon, we reckon.
