Kingdom Hearts Missing Link Lead Programmer Shares Update Through His Portfolio, Confirms It's Not Cancelled

Summary
- Kingdom Hearts is silent all over lately, and that's most concerning for Missing Link, which is supposed to be out this year.
- An update on the game has finally been shared through the lead programmer's portfolio that confirms it's not cancelled.
- It also provides a possible reason for why the game is taking so long, as it's apparently jumped to Unreal Engine 5.
The lead programmer for Kingdom Hearts Missing Link has updated his portfolio and shared more information about the game, indicating that it's not cancelled but has gone through a shift that could explain the long wait.
While most Kingdom Hearts fans have their sights and hearts set on the fourth mainline game eventually waking up from its three-year-long slumber and finally sharing more information, it's not the only series project that's missing in action. The other, more concerning, silence comes from Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, the latest mobile game in the series and one that apes Pokemon Go.

With the Switch 2 being a more powerful console, Kingdom Hearts shouldn't have to be cloud-based anymore.
PostsMissing Link was announced three years ago and, while it's had more updates than Kingdom Hearts 4 and was even playable through betas, it's lived up to its name and gone completely missing in the past year since it was delayed into 2025. Some feared it was cancelled or hoped it was being moved to consoles, but neither of those outcomes appears to be the case.
Missing Link Update Shared Through Lead Programmer's Portfolio
The Jump To Unreal Engine 5 Could Explain Some Things
Over on Twitter, KHMLTomorrow shared a rather interesting update about the game that's been discovered through the lead programmer's website and portfolio. KHMLTomorrow has kept the programmer's identity a secret to protect them, but still shared some of what can be found on the website and verified it with other accounts, making it seem legitimate.
The portfolio contains a lot of interesting information about Missing Link, including the fact that it's apparently going to be running in Unreal Engine 5 after previously being done in UE4. This could explain why the game has taken so long since it was revealed and why there's been so much silence following the delay. It also confirms Missing Link hasn't been cancelled, since work on it is apparently ongoing.
Interestingly, the portfolio also claims that Missing Link's origin comes from a pitch using a R&D project that was created during development of Kingdom Hearts 3.
While there's a possibility that the portfolio is fake and just incredibly well put together, it does seem to be legitimate. KHMLTomorrow pointed out that one of the screenshots featured on the website is one that we haven't seen before of the jungle area that was briefly shown during the game's reveal trailer. That image features a different UI to the most recent build, giving it a bit more credence.
