Four years ago, Final Fantasy 14 blogger Maidy passed away after a long battle with cancer.

He became an icon in the community through his blog "Hikari no Otōsan" in which he introduced the game to his father to bring them closer together after having drifted apart. He chose Final Fantasy 14 in particular because his dad introduced him to the series with Final Fantasy 3 on the Nintendo Famicom, making their journey together in Eorzea a true, wholesome full-circle moment.

The blog was later turned into a TV series called "Dad of Light" which was then adapted into a movie called "Brave Father Online: Our Story Of Final Fantasy 14".

His father passed away only six months ago, but Maidy—and thus their story—has now been immortalised in the game that brought the two back together.

The new Dawntrail expansion introduces an NPC bearing the likeness of Maidy in Solution Nine, sitting on a park bench. It's an especially fitting spot to find them in, but if you want to avoid spoilers, stop here.

Spoilers for Dawntrail.

Maidy Can Be Found In The Solution Nine Hub City

Those who die in Solution Nine are uploaded to what is essentially the Final Fantasy equivalent of the cloud, living forever in an artificial afterlife. Maidy is found here wearing a Regulator on their head which implies that they will live forever upon death, as this is the very tool that grants them access to the next life.

Fans have long hoped that Square Enix would honour Maidy and their story in the game, and Dawntrail finally answered their wishes. They can't be interacted with and don't have a name, but they are unmistakenly an homage to the blogger whose story touched so many.

You can watch Dad of Light on Netflix, and Brave Father Online: Our Story Of Final Fantasy 14 on Crunchyroll.

Square Enix's popular MMO, Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, has players step into the role of the Warrior of Light in the world of Eorzea. There, they find themselves testing their mettle against Primals, the Garlean Empire, the Ascians, and plenty of other threats.

This award-winning MMO now has multiple expansions to its name, with the most recent Endwalker expansion bringing the Hydaelyn/Zodiark arc to a close. Director and producer Yoshi-P has promised lots of plans for future content and the game has regular updates to keep players occupied.
