PostsIf you're looking for an early confidence-booster, the easiest Chromatic Nevron to defeat is Chromatic Bruler, who lives right out in the open on the Continent Map. Just because it's the weakest doesn't mean you'll be able to walk right up and topple it, though; here's everything you'll need to know before making the attempt.
Where Is Chromatic Bruler?
In Act 1, the largest area of the Continent Map that you can reach is the region around the red forest where the Gestral Village is hidden. You'll arrive there after passing through Flying Waters. There's a lot to explore here, but much of it will be closed off until you've visited the Gestrals.
If you go around the red forest in either direction, you'll find Chromatic Bruler towering over the landscape on the north side. The monster won't give chase if you approach, so you'll be able to get a First Strike when the time comes to attack.
How To Defeat Chromatic Bruler
As with most fights in Clair Obscur, a solid party setup and knowledge of the enemy attack pattern goes a long way to winning.
Recommended Party
Chromatic Bruler shouldn't give you too much trouble if you fight it with a party of Level 18 or higher. This means that unless you've been doing a lot of grinding, you should recruit Sciel and Esquie as part of the main story first, and then circle back to fight the boss.
Chromatic Bruler is weak against Ice damage, so equip your team with weapons of that element. Have Lune lead the way by cycling between Ice and Fire spells to deal damage and apply Burn on alternate turns, taking breaks to cast Healing Light if you miss a Parry.
Healing Light also generates a Light Stain, which Lune can use to easily boost the damage on either Ice Lance or Immolation. If Lune runs low on AP, have her cast Thermal Transfer on the burning boss to top up.
Maelle can add more Burn stacks while she's in Defensive Stance, switching to Offense or Virtuose for big hits as needed. Between her and Lune, you should be able to force the boss to take a lot of damage on its own turn.
Since Sciel is still a relatively new party member at this point, it might be best to keep her in reserve. Her Harvest Skill makes her a great emergency solo fighter if things go wrong, and Gustave is much more likely to have an Ice-elemental weapon available unless you've gotten very lucky with loot drops.

PostsRewards
Defeating Chromatic Bruler earns 21,938 XP, which should be enough for everyone in the Expedition to gain a level. You'll also get just over 3000 Chroma, two Polished Chroma Catalyst for weapon upgrades, and five Colours of Lumina to use at Camp.
Most importantly, though, you'll earn the Powerful Revive Pictos. This accessory and the associated Lumina it teaches allow the equipped character to gain Powerful for three turns after being revived. If you have a character with low Vitality who's constantly having to be brought back after a missed Parry, it's a great way to even the odds.
Don't shoot Chromatic Bruler's weak point on its head right away; instead, use Luminas like Marking Shot to apply Mark to it, then shoot the weak point with an Ice weapon. Taking the time to set this up will remove a massive chunk of the boss's health bar for relatively little effort.
Chromatic Bruler Attack Patterns
Chromatic Bruler's main attack is a spinning anchor combo. It strikes the same target four times in a rhythmic pattern, approximately one second apart, then finishes with an overhead strike that takes just slightly longer to connect. Parrying them all takes focus, but the reward of 5AP and a Counter is worth the risk.
If Chromatic Bruler stays put on its turn, it will instead use a three-strike ground pound combo. Have the team jump just before it drops its anchor to avoid the shockwaves, and perform Jump Counters each time.
