Overwatch 2: 10 Best Ultimate Abilities, Ranked

Each hero in Overwatch 2 has their own powerful ultimate, but some are stronger than others. These are the best.

One effective way to counter this Damage hero is to pick the right heroes to go up against her, regardless of which class you pick - as long as they’re not dependent on cooldowns, or come equipped with skills that allow you to stand your ground or make swift escapes. Here are the 13 best counters to play against Sombra to get you started.

13 Soldier: 76

Key Abilities

  • Sprint
  • Biotic Field

One of the easiest heroes to pick up for anyone new to Overwatch 2, Soldier: 76 is not heavily dependent on his cooldowns to be able to deal lots of damage and can also sprint despite being hacked, making him a solid choice when going up against a Sombra - especially in a 1v1 situation.

Provided the player is able to quickly notice when Sombra’s Hack is taking place, a seasoned Soldier: 76 would be able to protect himself by quickly laying down his healing pad and survive the assassination attempt while also dealing lots of damage to Sombra - enough to, perhaps, drive her off or kill her.

12 Cassidy

Key Abilities

  • Combat Roll
  • Flashbang

Cassidy can easily fend off or defeat a Sombra in a 1v1 even while hacked, but it greatly depends on the player’s ability to accurately click on Sombra’s hitbox to deal lethal headshot damage and take her out before she guns you down.

If you can consistently survive these 1v1 encounters with Sombra, it might be enough to make your opponent switch out to another hero. Additionally, if the enemy Sombra doesn’t teleport back to their Translocator for whatever reason, Cassidy’s Flashbang can quickly turn the tables on them in that encounter.

11 Sombra

Key Abilities

  • Stealth
  • Hack

Sometimes, you gotta fight fire with fire. Playing Sombra against an enemy Sombra may work greatly in your favour if you’re able to get the drop on them before they get to you first. This could be seeking out and destroying their Translocator so you cut off their escape route when they inevitably attempt a hack.

You could also wait around and hover close to your team - especially your backline - and wait for the opportunity to literally reveal itself, then hack the enemy Sombra before they realise what’s happening to them. If done effectively, you’ll be able to block their every attempt at disrupting your team.

10 Mei

Key Abilities

  • Cryo-Freeze

Mei’s a pretty robust choice, especially since she can shrug off the effects of Sombra’s Virus because of her Cryo-Freeze ability. Hacking Mei won’t take away the lethality of her primary fire, which can easily immobilise Sombra as she comes out of stealth - as long as she doesn’t teleport away in time.

You don’t always have to seek out Sombra in 1v1 situations either. Stick close to your backline, especially your supports, if you know there’s a Sombra roving around looking to get an easy pick before an upcoming team fight. Skill matters, but banding together with others will make any Sombra think twice before attempting a hack!

9 Torbjorn

Key Abilities

  • Deploy Turret

Torbjorn’s perfect for setting up defenses against Sombra, who could be anywhere on the map at any given time. Whether you’re pushing the payload or holding the point, Torbjorn’s turret will automatically gun down an enemy Sombra as soon as she comes out of stealth.

This will effectively limit Sombra’s movement since she can’t freely reveal herself in an attempt to get an easy pick. This also narrows down where she could possibly be, and if the team is aware of it, then you could very likely deny Sombra precious opportunities to engage and attack.

8 Tracer

Key Abilities

  • Blink
  • Recall

Tracer might not be the best choice to face Sombra in a 1v1, but her mobility makes it ridiculously easy to zip around the map to check all possible camping spots to destroy Sombra’s Translocator or even set up an ambush nearby to get the drop on her.

If you find yourself in a 1v1, strafe aggressively while gunning Sombra down with your primary fire. This is because Tracer’s hitbox can be hard to accurately click on when this hero is strafing, meaning you might be able to survive Sombra’s attacks since her primary fire doesn’t deal that much DPS.

7 D.Va

Key Abilities

  • Defense Matrix

On account of her large HP pool and her Defense Matrix ability, D.Va’s one of the best heroes to play when going up against an annoyingly persistent Sombra who needs to be watched at all times. This is because hacking a D.Va isn’t going to do much in the way of rendering her ineffective - after all, her primary fire is unlimited and doesn’t need reloading, nor does she depend on cooldowns to deal damage.

Overwatch 2: Characters That Combo Well With Each Tank

In Overwatch 2, there's now one tank per team, so which characters should you pick to combo with them?

If you know the enemy team is running a Sombra, then consider utilising D.Va to the fullest - either by chasing down and harassing the enemy Sombra when she comes, or by staying close to your backline and protecting them from their would-be assassin.

6 Roadhog

Key Abilities

  • Chain Hook
  • Take a Breather

Roadhog’s another chunky Tank hero that might give Sombra more trouble than is worth the effort. Skilled Roadhogs who can land their hook on Sombra as soon as she comes out of stealth are Roadhogs that she’s going to actively stay away from.

The great thing about Roadhog is also that he packs a real punch even with his cooldowns disabled. A careless Sombra might find herself in close range of his powerful secondary fire and may decide it’s better to switch out than try to whittle down a beast of a Tank like Roadhog.

5 Winston

Key Abilities

  • Secondary fire
  • Barrier Projector
  • Leap

There’s nothing that can escape the “tickle” of Winston’s Tesla Cannon - especially not a Sombra who can’t hide behind stealth. Her low HP pool makes her a prime target for Winston players, especially if she’s unable to make a quick getaway to her Translocator for whatever reason.

And just like any other Tank hero, Winston’s high HP pool makes him a little more durable going up against Sombra. And even if your Barrier Projector skill has been temporarily disabled, there’s no need to run. The best thing you can do is keep up the tickling, and use as much natural cover as possible to avoid getting out-damaged by Sombra.

4 Ana

Key Abilities

  • Sleep Dart
  • Biotic Grenade

Any seasoned Ana player can easily stop Sombra in her tracks with a well-placed and well-timed Sleep Dart - provided, of course, they manage to make the shot and catch the hacker-assassin at exactly the right time.

It also won’t hurt to quickly throw down a Biotic Grenade if you catch a Sombra sneaking up on you and attempting a hack. If you’re lucky, you might hit the enemy Sombra and scare her off, or even open an opportunity for your teammates to swiftly double back and easily take her out before she skedaddles.
