The Legend of Zelda franchise continues to captivate gamers, especially with the impactful releases of Breath of the Wild and its sequel, Tears of the Kingdom. These open-world editions of the series have not only expanded gameplay but also introduced memorable characters. Among them, one fan-favorite stands out: Hestu, the maraca-loving Korok.

Hestu plays a significant role in both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, where players encounter him as they journey through the expansive worlds. His quirky love for music and maracas wishes to resonate with fans, making him a strong candidate for further appearances in the franchise. Whether or not he appears in future mainline titles, the idea of Hestu in a standalone rhythm game is an exciting prospect.

Hestu’s Maraca-Loving Ways Could Open the Door to a Great Rhythm Game

A Hestu Rhythm Game Could Take Inspiration From Another Rhythm Classic

For those familiar with the rhythm gaming landscape, a potential Hestu-centric rhythm game could draw inspiration from Samba de Amigo. Originally launched on the Dreamcast in 2000, this title serves as an engaging model for a game focused on Hestu’s maraca mastery. Both Hestu and the game’s main character, Amigo, share a passion for playing maracas, establishing a strong foundation for a unique rhythm experience particularly suited for the Nintendo Switch.

Notably, Samba de Amigo was later remastered for the Nintendo Wii in 2008, showcasing its enduring appeal and versatility as a franchise.

Samba de Amigo’s Controls Were Essentially Joy-Cons Prototypes

The original game featured controllers that were designed like maracas, enhancing the gameplay’s interactive element. This innovative control scheme aligns perfectly with the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch, utilizing its Joy-Con controllers as ideal stand-ins for Hestu’s maracas should this rhythm game ever come to fruition.

While there is currently no indication that a Hestu rhythm game is in development, the concept could provide a delightful and whimsical extension of the Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom legacies. Unfortunately, Series Producer Eiji Aonuma has indicated that Tears of the Kingdom may be the concluding chapter of this Zelda sub-series. This news is certainly disheartening for fans who viewed this iteration as one of the franchise’s strongest. However, Hestu’s popularity suggests that there remains a viable path for further tales in the Zelda universe.

In his quests, Hestu is known for helping Link expand his inventory in exchange for Korok Seeds, further cementing his crucial place in these narratives. Although a potential rhythm game might not attract the vast audience of the mainline titles, it could serve as a charming spin-off that celebrates this beloved character.

The Switch 2 Could Bring Forth Some Exciting Announcements

While a rhythm game focused on Hestu seems unlikely at present, the anticipated release of the Switch 2 could herald exciting announcements surrounding the Zelda franchise. A Nintendo Direct event is scheduled for April 2, spotlighting the new console, and it promises intriguing revelations. Fans are hopeful for news on the next chapter of The Legend of Zelda, keeping the legacy alive with possibly exciting developments ahead.
