To embark on your journey to the Northern Expedition, begin by conversing with the Shipwright on Fisch’s starter island. From there, spawn your boat and steer it southward. Oddly enough, despite the region’s name, the path requires heading south to access the island. As you navigate closer, you will encounter a large portal — enter it to teleport to the new area. Continue southwards, and you will arrive at the icy surroundings of the Northern Expedition, which leads you to the Merchant’s starting area.

Scaling the Northern Expedition Mountain

To fully explore the Northern Expedition, reaching the mountain’s peak is essential. As players ascend, they will discover new fish species to catch and a variety of rods to collect. At the apex lies a challenging puzzle necessary to unlock the coveted Heaven’s Rod, which boasts the highest value in the game, surpassing the previous record-holder, the Rod of The Depths.

To navigate the mountain safely, purchasing essential equipment is crucial. Different oxygen tanks can be sourced from various campsites dotted along the ascent. There are four types of oxygen tanks available; as you climb higher, you will have access to superior models. For your initial climb, securing the Winter Cloak and the Intermediate Oxygen Tank — both obtainable in the Northern Expedition — is indispensable, along with the Glider from Sunstone Island.

Kick off your journey by acquiring the Basic Oxygen Tank, situated close to the Merchant in the Northern Expedition’s starting area. After procuring this essential gear, proceed east to the area dominated by water and massive ice blocks — this marks the beginning of your ascent.

Continue ascending by traversing the ladders you come across. If you find yourself disoriented, look out for poles connected by ropes; these guide your route to either nearby campsites or the next stretch of the climb.

To ultimately reach the summit, consistently upgrade your oxygen tanks to extend the duration before your oxygen meter depletes. The Winter Cloak is equally essential to maintain your body temperature. Should either meter fall to zero, your character will perish, forcing you to start over.

Whenever you come across a campsite, take a moment to stop. These sites offer upgraded oxygen tanks for purchase, as well as refill stations to bolster your current tanks. Additionally, campfires are available to restore your body temperature, ensuring your well-being on this chilly expedition.

Each campsite also features an Inn Keeper NPC who can serve as your respawn point for a mere 35C$. This feature is invaluable; if you slip and fall while climbing a ladder, you may find yourself at the mountain’s base again. Watch out for avalanches too; if you’re caught while they happen, your character will be knocked off the mountain, and you’ll have to start from scratch.
