With the series of qualifiers over, IEM New York sees half of its slots for the main event filled. The circuit will make its next stop for this season October 10-13.
A total of seven preliminary tournaments were held to determine the first eight players to secure spots for the second IEM event for Season VIII. The European portion selected ForGG and Naniwa as its representatives as the two fought through a vicious competition with names like TLO, StarDust, Snute, Grubby, Vortix, Lucifron and Nerchio before reaching the final spot.
Two qualifiers were played for the American region, one for all three of North, South and Central America (won by State, HuK and qxc) and one for US citizens only where CM Storm's Polt emerged as victor.
The preliminary process for Asia was divided into several stages. Three separate qualifiers were held for Korea/Taiwan, SEA and China to determine the eight participants to move on to the Asia Final Qualifier. Played today, said final qualifier awarded Zest and Curious with IEM NY spots, the two leaving behind bracket favorites like Innovation in the dirt.
Eight more will join the aforementioned names in New York. Four will come from the first stage of competition (two double elimination brackets with top two moving on) and four more invited based on the WCS rankings.
