Deltarune Chapter 5 hits nearly 300,000 Steam players as Chapter 6 targets 2027 release
Deltarune's story is far from over.
The long-awaited release of Deltarune Chapter 5 has propelled Toby Fox's RPG to nearly 300,000 concurrent players on Steam, more than doubling its previous peak while pushing it into the platform's top 10 best-selling games.
The milestone comes alongside confirmation that the story is far from over. According to the game's website, Chapter 6 is currently targeting a 2027 release, with more chapters set to follow as development continues.
Deltarune Chapter 5 more than doubles the game's previous Steam record
Chapter 5's launch has delivered Deltarune's biggest day on Steam since the game first began its chapter-by-chapter release. Within hours of release, the RPG climbed from its previous concurrent player record of 133,920 to 291,816 players according to SteamDB, more than doubling its all-time peak while securing a place among Steam's top 10 best-selling games.
Despite years between several chapter releases, Deltarune has continued to draw players back with every new instalment, with Chapter 5 becoming the game's biggest Steam launch to date.
What is Deltarune Chapter 5 about?
Titled Festival Day, Chapter 5 follows Kris and the party as they explore the Flower Kingdom, a Dark World created inside Asgore's flower shop. According to the Deltarune Wiki, the chapter centres on Flowery, one of Asgore's flowers who wants to make him happy, while also continuing the Weird Route, and introducing Pink as the final Shadow Crystal bonus boss.
Originally planned to launch alongside Chapters 3 and 4 as part of Deltarune's paid release, Chapter 5 instead arrived later as a free update for players who had already purchased the game.
When will Deltarune Chapter 6 be released?
Chapter 5 won't be the end of Deltarune's story. "The story is still continuing, and more chapters will be added for free over time," the FAQ on the game's Steam page states. It also confirms, “We are aiming for a 2027 release (for Chapter 6)! Meanwhile, we will be periodically releasing information on the development progress of the game.” Anyone who purchases Chapters 3 and 4 will receive all subsequent chapters at no additional cost, while Chapters 1 and 2 remain free.
Chapter 7 could already begin development this year
The roadmap extends beyond Chapter 6. In a recent report by IGN, Fox said development has progressed well enough that “it’s not unrealistic that some staff members may start working on Chapter 7 before the end of the year.”
After setting a new Steam player record with Chapter 5, Deltarune's chapter-by-chapter journey is showing little sign of slowing down. With Chapter 6 already targeting 2027 and Chapter 7 beginning to take shape, Toby Fox's long-running RPG still has plenty of story left to tell.
