CD Projekt RED will lift the lid on the tech behind The Witcher 4 during Epic’s upcoming Unreal Engine presentation.

The sequel to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt may not be out until 2027, but anticipation around it is continuing to build. CD Projekt RED is now preparing to reveal more about one of its most anticipated games, The Witcher 4. The announcement came via The Witcher’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday evening, 2 June.

In the post, CD Projekt RED confirmed that it will present "the innovative technology and features that will power The Witcher 4, and beyond" during Epic Games’ State of Unreal keynote. The presentation is scheduled for Wednesday at 9:30 PM SGT/9:30 AM EST/3:30 PM CEST.

Unreal Engine showcase could hint at what’s to come

Epic’s annual State of Unreal presentation has become a space for developers to show off next-gen visuals and tools. Last year, the spotlight was on Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, a cinematic action game from Uncharted creator Amy Hennig.

This time, all eyes are on The Witcher 4. While CD Projekt RED has yet to reveal gameplay or in-engine footage, this showcase marks the first official platform where fans might catch a glimpse of the technology powering the next Witcher title. Whether or not actual gameplay is shown remains to be seen, but the groundwork is clearly being laid.

CD Projekt RED mentioned that the presentation will feature “the innovative technology and features that will power The Witcher 4, and beyond.” While the focus will likely be on The Witcher 4, this phrasing suggests that the studio could also touch on how Unreal Engine 5 will support future projects. CDPR has already confirmed that upcoming titles will be built on Unreal Engine 5, so this may be the first proper look at some of the tools and systems being developed across the studio’s pipeline.

This could mean the studio plans to offer a broader look at how its tools and systems are evolving. From open-world architecture to real-time weather, lighting, and AI, Unreal Engine 5 provides the foundation for a new era of CDPR game, and this keynote may offer the first look at how that will shape up.

The Witcher 4 will mark the beginning of a new saga, where the story will shift focus from Geralt to his adoptive daughter, Ciri. Despite the growing buzz, CD Projekt RED has confirmed that The Witcher 4 is not expected to release before 2027. With pre-production still underway and no official release window confirmed yet, fans will have to be patient.
