Hollow Knight Silksong will only cost five dollars more than original game

Sure, it’s not free-ninety-nine, but in 2025’s market of US$70 to US$80 games, many fans feel like it's a steal.
In a time when many big-budget releases are edging towards the US$80 mark, Hollow Knight: Silksong is taking a very different approach.Team Cherry announced that the long-awaited sequel will release at US$19.99, a figure that puts it just five dollars above the original Hollow Knight. The game will be €19.99 in Europe and ¥2300 in Japan.
The confirmation ends a lively weekend of speculation, where fans were already convinced they knew the number thanks to leaks and reports.
Leaks on the pricing over the weekend spark discussion
Hints about the price first appeared when fans spotted a listing on GameStop for Silksong’s Switch 2 edition. The page showed a cost of US$20, but checkout errors quickly suggested it wasn’t a live product. The listing disappeared soon after, but not before screenshots circulated widely and set the community talking.
Many fans were pleasantly surprised with the pricing, with some like Redditor HypeIncarnate thinking that the game would cost at least US$25, while many others couldn’t believe that the price could be true at the time the discussion was ongoing, with Redditor Twidom saying “There is no way in hell they are asking just that for Silksong.”
Some others were so happy that they commented that it was “time to buy [the game] multi-platform.”
Adding fuel to the fire, respected leaker Billbil-Kun followed up with their own findings. According to them, the sequel would be listed at US$19.99 in the United States, £16.75 in the United Kingdom, and €19.50 in Europe, with small adjustments on GOG.
Fans didn’t have long to wait of course, because only days after the leak, Team Cherry confirmed on X that Silksong will indeed retail for US$19.99, matching the figures that had been circulating.
Pricing compared to Hollow Knight
When the first Hollow Knight launched in 2017, it carried a US$15 price tag that helped the indie hit reach a wide audience. Nearly a decade later, many expected Silksong to be far more expensive, especially as game prices have risen sharply in recent years.
With AAA publishers pushing US$70 to US$80 releases and indie sequels such as Hades 2 costing noticeably more than their predecessors, Team Cherry’s five-dollar increase looks modest.
For fans who have been waiting through years of anticipation and speculation, the confirmation feels like a long-held breath finally released. After 2,391 days, the wait is almost over; in less than three days, Hornet’s long-awaited adventure will finally begin.
Hollow Knight: Silksong will release on 4 September at 10:00 PM SGT or 11PM JST or 4:00 PM CEST or 7:00 AM PT, and will be available for US$19.99 in the United States, €19.99 in Europe and ¥2300 in Japan. The game will be available on Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and via Xbox Game Pass on Day 1.
