Chris Tapani Leads Day 1B of WPT Shooting Star Main Event
Chris Tapani, the son of the late Marko Tapani, who created the Shooting Star tournament back in 1997, was the Day 1B chip leader of the popular World Poker Tour Shooting Star event at the Bay 101 casino in San Jose. He collected a $10,000 bonus for being the chip leader heading into Day 2.
The Shooting Star event draws crowds each year because of the unique $5k bounty placed on the heads of the celebrity poker pros. The pros sign customized t-shirts with their photo when they bust, along with the bounty. The fans, both in the field and watching from the rail get a big kick of seeing all the poker celebrities.
There were 273 players on Day 1B, bringing to a total of 415 for the $10,000 buy-in NLHE main event. The prize pool generated was $3,942,500 with $1,039,000 reserved for first place.
