Just like any competitive game, the meta for Overwatch is ever evolving. The ability to hero switch on the fly and a myriad of different maps makes the meta incredibly diverse, so much so that shifts may occur during a single map. This means that the meta is constantly changing, and it can be hard to keep track of. With this series, I aim to show what the meta as a whole looks like. Every week I manually record all the hero picks from the GosuGamer’s Weeklies and compile them into a by-the-numbers look at the current state of the meta, including a tier list, summary of the week’s strategies, a look at each hero’s place in the meta, and more!
Here are some highlights from the video:
The most dominant strategy
- Currently the most dominant strategy is known as “Orbital Destruction”, typically composing of 2 Zenyattas, Genji, Tracer, Symmetra, and a flex
- This strategy pushed out a lot of other heroes who would otherwise see some play
The most popular hero
- Zenyatta was the most picked hero this week, largely due to the Orbital Destruction strategy
- He was actually so popular, he had a 150% pickrate, meaning he was guaranteed to show up twice on at least one side in every match
Big winners and losers of last week
- Tracer saw a large increase in play, doubling her pickrate from last week
- Conversely, McCree saw a fall from his core position to being picked less than 50% of the time
These are just a few light points from the video. There is a lot more in-depth analysis to be found within:
