Oz: "Above my results, the team’s results are more important."
Recently EG interviewed their newest Protoss player Oz. They discussed how it has been adjusting to the new atmosphere and how it differs from from the KeSPA teams.
Oz was a Brood War in which he played for the team Hite SPARKYZ. He was previously in team Fnatic before joining EG. He has seen a moderate amount of success in the recent years, taking 1st place in the RSL by defeating VortiX 4:3. He also took 3rd at MLG Summer arena losing 3:4 to Alicia, and he took 4th at the 2012 MLG Winter Arena losing 1:2 to DonRaeGu.
The interview began with Oz answering how practicing with EG differs from the other teams he had been a member of.
Compared to other foreign teams, I can practice here in a much more organized way. On the other hand, compared to KeSPA teams, I enjoy practice here in a more harmonious atmosphere.
Oz was then asked about his past with his Brood War team SPARKYZ and if it feels the same playing for EG and competing now.
Back then, the priority was myself. Even if the team lost, it was consoling if I won, but now I really feel that I am placing more important in the team. Above my results, the team’s results are more important. I think everyone would agree that our team and the players have the best team atmosphere compared to any other team out there.
Afterwards the interview went on to ask Oz if there were any differences in KeSPA players play or practice compared to the original Starcraft 2 players.
KeSPA players are more focused in that they analyze each specific match up in detail and immerse themselves in practice for that match up. If you think about it, this would benefit them greatly. They are used to working under such practice systems, so they are very strong in BO1′s.
Near the end of the interview Oz was asked about his qualification for WCS North America's premier league, and how challenging was it.
I thought I was going to die. I’ve have in a lot of these qualifiers in the past, but I was able to get good amount of sleep and participate in those. However, our team has a set schedule, and we also had Proleague matches during that weekend, so we had to prepare for the qualifier right after we came back from our Proleague match against SKT. Since I was able to advance through the winner’s bracket, I played from 2AM to 12PM, but the other players had to play for an extra day. It was very difficult, but once I made it through, my fatigue was blown away.
