Creative Assembly confirmed that Tides of Torment for Total War: Warhammer III is set to launch in late October 2025. Initially planned for an earlier release, the team delayed the DLC after internal testing revealed it needed more polish.

According to Game Director Todor, the extra time ensures that every new feature—from faction mechanics to narrative design—hits the expected quality bar. Players can expect a smoother first-day experience, improved balance, and refined campaign features designed around both sandbox and narrative playstyles.

The update also addresses long-requested fan feedback, particularly around High Elves, faction unification, and unit diversity.

Aislinn and the High Elves Overhaul

At the heart of Tides of Torment is Aislinn, the Sea Lord of Ulthuan. Known for his aggressive strategy and iron-fisted control of the seas, Aislinn commands a completely fresh campaign experience.

His dual-wielding duelist combat style makes him one of the most versatile new Legendary Lords. He also brings signature tabletop-inspired mechanics, including archer buffs and offensive naval tactics. Combined with the High Elves’ new confederation system, players can now unite multiple factions under one banner.

Fan-favorite characters Tyrion and Teclis also receive notable updates, reinforcing their identities as Ulthuan’s most iconic mage and warrior leaders.

New Units, Magic, and Skycutters

Tides of Torment introduces several highly requested units and gameplay features designed to expand High Elf strategies:

  • Skycutters — Flying chariots pulled by giant eagles, available in two variants: archer-mounted or bow-thrower artillery.

  • Oceanids — Water-based monstrous infantry designed to absorb heavy damage while reshaping frontline engagements.

  • Sea Elemental — A devastating anti-infantry powerhouse with high elemental resistances.

  • Mist Mage — A new hero archetype wielding the Lore of Mists, granting stealth, ranged buffs, and the ability to summon Oceanids mid-battle.

These additions amplify mobility, tactical flexibility, and naval dominance, offering entirely new High Elf playstyles.

Faction Updates for Slaanesh and Norsca

Beyond High Elves, Tides of Torment delivers significant improvements to other factions:

  • Slaanesh gains new tech tree refinements, cult reworks, and the Devotees of Slaanesh unit—a dual-wielding infantry specialist with a crossbow variant.

  • Norsca receives a complete overhaul of monster hunts, introducing region-specific creatures and trophy-based battle buffs.

  • Sayl now comes with every original Norscan unit, including mammoths and marauders, alongside narrative content reflecting his cunning nature.

  • Dechala has been redesigned with a new decadence system, focused on building pleasure palaces and commanding thralls across the map.

These updates aim to make each faction’s campaign identity more distinctive and rewarding.
