Every Pokemon game has had three starting Pokemon. A grass type no one cares about, a water type that always goes to the rival, and a fire type that every player gets attracted towards like a Heracross to a tree slobbered with honey.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are no different, as it looks like Fuecoco is quickly becoming the fan favorite starter for the Paldea region. After all, what’s not to love? It’s cute, it’s small, it’s round, and it evolves into a cool fire breathing crocodile.

How to get Fuecoco

Fuecoco, as well as both of its evolved forms, are never found in the wild in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, as the only way to get it without outside help is by picking it when given the choice to pick your starter at the very start of the game.

If you didn’t pick Fuecoco at the start (we don’t fault you if you went for the Quaxly) then it’s still possible to obtain a Fuecoco by trading it from another player, or from another Nintendo Switch you might own.

Trading is made even simpler with the use of trade link codes which you have to enter after opening the Poké Portal and clicking the Link Trade option. Simply input the code associated with the Pokémon you’re looking to trade and you’ll get matched with someone who inputs that same code.

How to Evolve Fuecoco into Crocalor and Skeledirge

Evolving your Fuecoco into Crocalor is the same as it has been for every starter Pokemon in every Pokemon game. All you have to do is train it by battling wild Pokemon or trainers that challenge you until it hits level 16.

As soon as your Fuecoco reaches level 16, it will naturally evolve into a Crocalor without having to use any special item or meet any specific condition. Similarly, getting your Crocalor to level 36 will evolve it into Skeledirge, the third evolution of Paldea’s fire type starter Pokemon.

If you find leveling up either your Fuecoco or Crocalor to be taking to too long, then you also have the option to use EXP candies, which can be earned by participating in Tera Raid Battle Events. The harder the raid, the better rated candy you’ll get.

Final Thoughts

Everyone knows that Pokemon come and go, but your starter always stays. Abiding by this rule, this fire crocodile and dinosaur hybrid Pokemon is sure to be one of your closest partners as you journey the region of Paldea in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Skeledirge looks so cool.
