We’ve got you covered! Skull and Bones is the latest pirate game to hit shelves and digital downloads. It’s been a popular entry to the pirate and sea-faring genre since its release, and Nintendo Switch gamers are wondering whether or not they can get Ubisoft’s latest title on their console. Here’s what we know.
Is Skull and Bones available on Nintendo Switch?
Skull and Bones is not on Nintendo Switch. The hybrid console does not have access to the title, which is currently restricted to next-gen platforms PC, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon Luna, and PlayStation 5. The pirate adventure that was said to be a spiritual successor to Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag is not available for Nintendo.
Why is Skull and Bones not on Switch?
On February 13, Skull and Bones came to several platforms at launch. That did not include the Nintendo Switch. Why is that? Ubisoft didn’t say specifically, as most developers don’t, why they excluded them, but it’s not hard to speculate.
The game was designed for current gen consoles. It’s not even available on the Xbox One or PlayStation 4, which by all accounts are outdated but still more powerful than the current Switch. Nintendo consoles are never about console power and more about getting access to Zelda, Mario, and Pokémon games while also being unique in terms of function.
That’s great, and there’s clearly a market for that, but it’s not something that makes it possible for a lot of high-powered, massive games to be ported to Switch. Other games have tried and had difficulty with the Switch version, including Mortal Kombat 1 and Hogwarts Legacy.
✓Zach’sTips
Nintendo isn’t interested in fighting the console wars on power terms. They’re more than comfortable leaving it to their exclusive titles and the random gimmick they assign to the console, and it’s worked well for them.
Unfortunately, that leaves Skull and Bones fans who have a Switch out of luck. The naval combat, factions, resources, and the golden age of piracy will require a different console. It’s also worth noting that the Switch is nearing the end of its lifetime.
Rumors of a Switch 2 coming out this calendar year persist, which means the original’s days are numbered. However, don’t hold your breath for the action RPG to come to that console, either. It is allegedly going to be on par with the PlayStation 4 in terms of power, which leaves Skull and Bones out. No naval battles for this handheld device hardware any time soon.
That’s all for Skull and Bones’ Switch status, but be sure to check out how to get Casting Sand, the crowbar, and bog iron!
