Helldivers 2 is available for purchase in two different editions: the Standard Edition and the premium Super Citizen Edition. Separating them is $20 but also a bundle of bonus goodies and items, including a few exclusive cosmetics and a fancy new title you can’t unlock grinding the base game.

Here’s a dive into both editions, including their respective content and bonuses, and whether the premium edition is worth the extra cash.

Should you buy the Helldivers 2 Super Citizen Edition?

We think the Super Citizen Edition is worth it if you are a new player or a dedicated player who puts in a lot of time and has a interest in the bonus cosmetics. You’ll start your journey with start with a decent weapon (it’s not one of the best weapons, but will get your on your feet) and armour, and access to a premium Warbond, which includes solid gear, too. Don’t forget about the Stratagem Hero Ship Game, which is only available in this edition. It’s a bit gimmicky, but is a nice way to kill time while waiting to load into a match.

One of the best bonuses is the Steeled Veterans Premium Warbond. If you were to purchase the Super Credits required for this, you would need to spend $10 which is half the cost of the upgrade to this edition. If you don’t want to spend the money, farming Super Credits requires a decent time investment but is certainly realistically achievable.

If you have the base game then $20 for the free cosmetics and the Steeled Veterans Premium Warbond is a solid deal in our opinion. Especially because the base game is priced at $39.99, much lower than the $69.99 for most other PlayStation exclusives.

If you’ve already purchased the Steeled Veterans Warbond then avoid the upgrade as you already have the most attractive part of the edition. You will get 1,000 Super Credits as compensation, but it’s still not worth it for the cosmetics alone.

The main reason to avoid the premium is that other than the DP-53 Saviour of the Free armour set, Will of the People cape, and the Super Citizen status, all the bonuses can be unlocked in the base game. Since you can earn the premium Warbond without needing to spend money, you can get around the cost of purchasing Super Credits. Additionally, the armour set doesn’t do much other than give you bragging rights.
