In this guide, we’ll walk you through what we consider to be the best axe pommel and axe attachments in God of War Ragnarok.

You’ll come across a fair few axe attachments during your adventures across the nine realms, with a unique set of skills, benefits, downsides, and stat boosts to set them apart. Whatever you playstyle there’s something out there for everyone, but among the sea of options, there are several axe attachments that simply rise above the rest.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the sheer choice of pommels and want to make good use of your resources by upgrading an axe attachment that can carry you through the late game and beyond, these are all solid options.

Grip of the Fallen Alchemist stats. Captured by VideoGamer

Grip of the Fallen Alchemist

  • Location – Legendary Chest in Pilgrim’s Landing, River Delta, Vanaheim
  • Skill – Serpent’s Health Burst

With a boost to strength, vitality, and luck, Grip of the Fallen Alchemist offers a well rounded stat increase. But, the real appeal comes from the grips special ability – Serpent’s Health Burst. The grip has a high luck chance of delivering a health burst for every successful use of Kratos’ Serpent’s Snare skill. Serpent’s Snare is among the most useful skills for the Leviathan Axe – holding R2 dishes out a brutal axe attack that causes huge damage but also throws the targeted enemy. Better yet, when used on weaker enemies there’s Frost on impact thrown into the mix that has a chance of launching other enemies into the air.

All this makes Serpent’s Snare a useful offensive and defensive tool – it lowers health bars like nobodies business, but also gives you space in the heat of a fight. The health burst afforded by the Grip of the Fallen Alchemist simply sweetens the deal, keeping you topped up with a reliable source of health. It’s undoubtedly one of the best axe attachments in God of War Ragnarok.

Grip of Radiant Reflection. Captured by VideoGamer

Grip of Radiant Reflection

  • Location – Brok’s and Sindri’s shop after completing Unlocking the Mask
  • Skill – Precision Momentum

Looking at pure stats alone, the Grip of Radiant Reflection ranks up there as one of the best axe attachments in God of War Ragnarok with a massive increase to strength alongside reasonable boosts to both runic and cooldown. This alone makes it a worthwhile option.

If your playstyle leans heavily into ranged combat and axe throws are your go-to attack, then the grips special skill is sure to delight. Precision Momentum charges the Permafrost skill for every successful ranged attack, effectively triggering Permafrost for both melee and ranged attacks. The Permafrost skill powers up the axe with Frost for every quick chain of melee attack where you don’t sustain damage. With Precision Momentum successful precision throws generate even more charge, turning Kratos into a frost-dealing menace. You’ll be freezing enemies left, right, and center, especially useful when taking on multiple mobs at the same time.

Haur’s Lucky Knob

  • Location – Location – Brok’s and Sindri’s shop after completing The Reckoning
  • Skill – Marksman’s Stun

If you’re playstyle favours ranged axe throws, Haur’s Lucky Throb makes them even stronger. The Markman’s Stun is the star of the show here, offering a moderate luck chance for any successful precision throw to cause a bonus Stun Blast. The stun works in your favour in two ways: it allows you to immobilise enemies then rush in a deal heavy melee damage, but also gives you some space if things get a bit too hairy, slowing down the intensity of the fight so you can reposition or thin the herd.

Solid starting Strength and Luck stats make this a well-rounded pommel that can, of course, be upgraded further. Even better is that you can visit Brok and Sindri’s Shop to craft it quite early on the story during The Reckoning main path quest.

Grip of the Nine Realms. Captured by VideoGamer

Grip of the Nine Realms

  • Location – Defeat Hjalti the Stolid at Hvitserkr’s Berserker Gravestone, Alfheim
  • Skill – Precision Momentum

While the Grip of the Nine Realms doesn’t have the DPS-boosting appeal of the other God of War Ragnarok axe attachments in our list, it does trump them for utility. It offers a big boost to runic, cooldown, and luck, especially when fully upgraded, as standard, but also possibly one of the most useful skills – Momentous Shift. Activating Glacial Permafrost (L1 + Triangle) creates a Realm Shift, slowing time, which can be immeasurably useful in the game’s tough end-game battles and post-story optional boss fights. Any type of breathing room is welcome, especially when taking on God of Ragnarok at the higher difficulty settings.

Stonecutter’s Knob

  • Location – Location – Brok’s and Sindri’s shop after completing The Reckoning
  • Skill – Slicing Finish

The Stonecutter’s Knob skill is a little broken given that you can craft it at Brok and Sindri’s Shop as early as The Reckoning main story quest. Slicing Finish adds a concussive wave to the end of all and any R1 axe combos, stunning enemies that get hit. No Luck chance or tedious requirements – the skill procs every time you chain R1 attacks making it incredibly useful in most fights, whether that’s 1-on-1 or a horde of Hel-walkers. The stun effect is fantastic at giving you space to breathe but also go in for quick kills after pulling off a combo.
