When you learn that a large part of Ys X: Nordic's gameplay is taking your ship from one island to another and roaming the open waters, fishing might be one of the first things that come to mind. How Fishing Works In Ys X: Nordics
When you first start playing Ys X: Nordics, you won't instantly be able to start fishing. This mechanic unlocks once you reach Termina Island through the main story, which is also the place where Sandras breaks down due to all the water currents. As you land on this island, you can talk to the two people fishing on the beach to learn about it.
Once it's unlocked, you can essentially fish anywhere near the water by pressing the button on the top left and then clicking "fish". However, there's a high chance of you not getting any fish unless you specifically do it in various fishing circles that can be found on almost every island.
While these circles are easy to see, they can also be easily missed if you're not paying attention to the surrounding water.
Once you enter the fishing menu, you can first scroll through all the different types of bait you have on the bottom right. Each bait gets you different types of fish among small, medium, large, and ancient. You'll also be able to see a special fish icon on the top right of some of these bait in specific locations.
When you see this, you're guaranteed to get a new fish when you use that bait for the first time. Once you select your bait and get a fish on the line, you simply have to mash the button shown on the bar at the top while also following all the commands given to you on the middle of the screen. Once the bar is full, you'll get the fish.
After fishing for a while, you'll get the green bar on the left to fill up. Once it's full, you can use it to get a massive boost to the top bar.
Where To Find Each Fish
Now that you know how fishing works in the game, the next step is to find every possible fish. There are a few reasons to do this apart from simply completing your collection:
- You can report these fish in the planning area up until a certain point of the story, and this will net you various rewards.
- You can also feed one of each type of fish to certain penguins that you can find in the waters. Whenever you feed them all fish of a certain type, they'll reward you. The penguin for small, medium, and large fish is found in Ozmid Expanse while the one for ancient fish is found in Raoul Darksea.
With that in mind, here are the locations for all your fishing needs:
