How To Unlock The Grappling Hook

The grappling hook is unlocked in the second half of the story. You'll need to complete the quest "Find a Friend" to gain access to the grappling hook. This quest starts in the Braer Castle dungeon, which acts as the capstone dungeon for the game's second story act.

In the castle, make your way to the Rooftop Terrace area at the top of the dungeon. You'll find a character named Killashandra inside. Talk with her to learn of her missing companion, Rikter. Your job is to find him.

Rikter is located on the southern end of Lochmuir Village. When you reach this zone, drop down two floors and open the locked door that's on an isolated platform. Use the boathouse key Killashandra gave you to head inside. Outside the boathouse will be a platform you can use to cross the deadly waters below. Reach the other side, fight the boss waiting for you, then inspect the remains of Rikter before reporting back to Killashandra. She'll give you the grappling hook as thanks.

How To Use The Grappling Hook

Now that you have a grappling hook, it's time to use it. While near a grappling point, jump into the air and hold the dodge button. This will fire the grappling hook in the direction you're looking. If it connects, you'll swing across the gap and land on the other side.

Some grappling hook anchors will be on vertical walls. If this is the case, hold onto the dodge button to scale the wall with your grappling hook. Both techniques are required to reach the end of Braer Castle and face the final boss.
