Summary

  • Amazon has opened pre-orders for the Robot White 1TB Xbox Series S, confirming the console will be released on October 15, 2024.
  • The new Series S is more or less identical to the original model, the key difference being its storage has been almost doubled.
  • Release dates for the other two Xbox models launching before the end of 2024 are yet to be revealed.

We're fast approaching the point in a console cycle where PlayStation and Xbox announce pro versions of their current-gen consoles. Phil Spencer claimed Xbox wouldn't be taking that route with the Series X|S and some reveals in June appear to have confirmed that. Three new console models will be released before the end of 2024, but none of them are more powerful than the ones that are already available. They're simply different designs with more memory or digital-only, and the first of the three - the Robot White 1TB Series S - is now up for pre-order.

The new model of Series S doubles the amount of storage available compared to the launch model. Although a cheaper, all-digital option was a great idea by Xbox, the amount of room those who opted for the Series S have for games has been a major sticking point. With some bigger triple-A titles comfortably clocking in at well over 100GB, by the time you've downloaded three or four games, your SSD is basically full.

There's already a 1TB Series S available, the Carbon Black edition, but now there's a white one joining it that looks more like the original console. In fact, in terms of appearance, as far as I can tell the 1TB version of the Robot White Series S is identical to the 512GB version. The only difference between the two consoles is their storage capabilities. That additional 488GB of room will cost you $50 as Xbox previously confirmed the 1TB model will cost $349.99, $50 more than the Series S's launch model.

Pre-Order At Amazon For $350 (Robot White 1TB) Expand Collapse

The Amazon listing for the 1TB Robot White Series S, which you can access above to place your pre-order, confirms the new console will be released on October 15, 2024. Perhaps a little earlier than expected as Xbox previously gave the console a vague Holiday 2024 release window. Launching in plenty of time for Christmas, but the other two console models revealed during June's Xbox Showcase are yet to be given release dates.

The headliner of that reveal was an all-digital Series X, not only because it won't be compatible with physical media, but because it will be exclusively available in white. Effectively the bigger sibling of the Series S, the digital-only Series X will cost $450. Last but not least was an all-new option for those who want a Series X with a disc tray. A rather stunning Galaxy Black 2TB Series X. That pretty pattern and all of that storage is going to cost you though as the upcoming Series X console has been given a $600 price tag.
