Gene-Seed is a collectible in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. It can only be found in Operations. Once acquired, it increases the amount of XP earned by all squadmates (including the player) by 30 percent. Since XP is directly tied to unlocking the best perks, weapons, upgrades, etc., the benefits of finding a Gene-Seed in an Operation cannot be overstated.

Unlike other collectibles, like Dataslates, Gene-Seeds are not always found in the same spot. In each Operation, there are multiple locations that you will need to search for when trying to find a Gene-Seed. However, the real challenge begins after you have successfully found one.

What Are Gene-Seeds?

The most important thing to know about the Gene-Seed is that the person carrying it cannot die. If this happens, the Gene-Seed is permanently lost for the current mission, and everyone loses the 30 percent XP multiplier. This is why it is important to keep the player carrying the Gene-Seed alive.

You should also note that the Gene-Seed and the Guardian Relic share the same inventory slot. This means that the player holding the Gene-Seed cannot possibly get the Guardian Relic. We recommend looking at the inventory of your teammates to see who is holding the Gene-Seed and plan your strategy accordingly.

As mentioned earlier, Gene-Seeds are not always found in the same spot. There are a few set locations in each Operation where one could spawn, so it is good practice to search these spots whenever possible.

Remember that only one player in the squad can collect the Gene-Seed. If it is already collected by someone, the rest of the squadmates will not see it.

Below, we have shared all possible spawn locations of Gene-Seeds in all six Operations in Space Marine 2:

Gene-Seed Locations In Operation: Inferno

There are five possible spawn locations that you can search for in Operation: Inferno.

Objective

Location

Reach the Astra Militarum Camp

In the initial area, go past the metallic bridge and turn to your immediate left. It can spawn behind the burning tank, on a green crate.

Proceed to the Promethium Refinery

Immediately after seeing the Promethium Refinery for the first time, turn left to a dead tree. The next spawn location is at the base of a large tree.

Start Bomb Deployment Protocol

Before interacting with the console to deploy the bomb, turn left toward some barrels and crates. It is possible to find a Gene-Seed here.

Advance to the Observation Platform

As soon as you jump down into the red-lit area, go straight toward some broken metallic structures to the next possible spawn of a Gene-Seed.

Advance to the Observation Platform

You simply continue to follow the marker until you head up a few stairs into another area. As soon as you enter the new area, turn to your left for the final Gene-Seed spawn.

Gene-Seed Locations In Operation: Decapitation

Similar to Operation: Inferno, this one also has five different locations where you can possibly come across a Gene-Seed in Operation: Decapitation:

Objective

Location

Proceed to the Bridge Tower

After leaving the church, continue to follow the pathway until you land on a rooftop. From there, drop down to the left side, and you may see a Gene-Seed in the broken section of a wall.

Advance to the Bridge

Use the elevator to head up, and you will find it at the base of the left statue.

Advance to the Bridge

After holding the area until the Hive Tyrant arrives, check the top-left corner of the area for another possible spawn.

Find the Hive Tyrant

Once you head down the elevator, it should be in the top-right corner of the room.

Pursue the Hive Tyrant

While you are in the tunnels, do not enter the elevator. Head to the back of the area for the last possible spawn of a Gene-Seed in this mission.

You will also see a Dataslate next to the last Gene-Seed spawn.

Gene-Seed Locations In Operation: Vox Liberatis

There are only three possible Gene-Seed spawn locations that we were able to find in Operation: Vox Liberatis.

Objective

Location

Locate the Source of the Jamming

At the beginning, once you reach the outside area, search the area behind the crates on the north-east side for the first possible spawn location.

Find a Way to Take Down the Warp Shielding

Before heading through the large, golden door, turn back toward the rubble and drop down a floor to find a possible Gene-Seed next to some barrels.

Navigate the Lower Levels of the Cathedral

As soon as the objective changes, do not interact with the console. Instead, head right to a separate room to find another possible spawn next to a corpse.

Gene-Seed Locations In Operation: Reliquary

Operation: Reliquary has a total of five possible Gene-Seed spawn locations. Most of these are during the ‘Proceed to the Warp Beacon’ objective:

Objective

Location

Proceed to the Warp Beacon

Immediately after jumping down in the beginning, enter the archway on the left to get to an alley. This is the first possible spawn of a Gene-Seed.

Search Servitor’s Bodies for a Fusion Core

While in the main room, head up the stairs on the left and continue straight to find it next to some candles.

Proceed to the Warp Beacon

After unsealing the tomb, exit the main door and look for it near the tree on the left side.

Proceed to the Warp Beacon

After dropping down toward the tower, head right for another potential spawn in front of a large gate.

Proceed to the Warp Beacon

Just before entering the Warp Beacon Tower, head all the way left for the last Gene-Seed spawn.

Gene-Seed Locations In Operation: Fall of Atreus

There are only four possible Gene-Seed spawn locations that we were able to find in Operation: Fall of Atreus.

Objective

Location

Proceed to the Mechanicus Compound

After you cross the bridge at the beginning of the mission, turn right into a small room for the first possible spawn of a Gene-Seed.

Proceed to the Mechanicus Compound

Before crossing the second metal bridge and jumping into the tunnels, search the room on the right side for another potential spawn location.

Follow the Dreadnought

While you are following the Dreadnought through the graveyard, turn right from the stairs to possibly find a Gene-Seed in front of a crypt.

Proceed to the Mechanicus Compound

After repairing the crane, drop down into the hole and turn around for another possible spawn of a Gene-Seed on the left side. You will also find a Dataslate a little forward.

Gene-Seed Locations In Operation: Ballistic Engine

The final Operation in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 also has five locations where a Gene-Seed could possibly appear:

Objective

Location

Image

Proceed to the Militarum Depot

As soon as the mission begins, continue toward the objective but stay on the left side. You will eventually enter a room with a forklift outside. You may find a Gene-Seed in this room, next to some barrels.

Awaken the Machine Spirit

After you jump down into the warehouse and the objective changes, head straight to Sector A’ and look for a potential Gene-Seed on the left side of the console, next to a couple of barrels.

Advance to the Train

Once you head up the lift, follow the path until you see a bright red light. It is possible for a Gene-Seed to appear in the room on the left of this light.

Advance to the Train

Right before activating the bridge to progress forward, search the area on the right side for the last possible spawn of a Gene-Seed. It should be next to an altar with some candles.

Advance to the Train

After jumping down into the Train Depot, go past the red container, and you may see it in a corner, next to a crate.
