Ubisoft Is Seemingly Hiring For A New Ghost Recon Game

Summary
- It appears that Ubisoft may be developing a new Ghost Recon game codenamed "Gone."
- The game will likely be set in Thailand or Southeast Asia based off the roles being considered.
- Ghost Recon's last title was Breakpoint in 2019, and the last two titles overall were open world adventures and not tactical linear experiences.
It's been a while since we've heard anything about a new Ghost Recon game. After all, Ghost Recon Breakpoint was released in 2019, and the planned live-service shooter, Ghost Recon Frontline, was canceled in 2022. That said, it appears that Ubisoft is gearing up for what appears to be another entry in the Tom Clancy series. That's if a casting call sheet is to be believed.
Over on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, a user shared details about Ubisoft's purported project codenamed "Gone." Per the post, Gone "is a tactical military video game about navigating the complexities of war." Six roles are being cast at the moment, and though the project could potentially be for a Rainbow Six title, the roles being cast are mostly in line with past titles.

Per the casting sheet, a character named "Kya-Win" seemingly appears to be the villain. The role calls for someone who is English-speaking, with a Thai accent and a background in Thai fluency. Kya-Win is a "former head of the National Secret Police and is now a rogue operator." They are inspired by a revolution and capable of inspiring others to their cause.
Other roles included in the sheet also call for Thai backgrounds, giving credence to the game taking place either in Thailand proper, Southeast Asia as a whole, or perhaps even a fictional country. For example, "Ahn" works for a "multinational NGO as a tireless advocate for those in need," and is a Thai-American, while another character named "Ringo" speaks rudimentary Thai, though they're reportedly Indonesian. That character in particular is a veteran soldier with a hidden past.
Elsewhere, there are calls for a character named "Raphael," who is a spec-ops soldier, along with "Spengler," who is a forensics specialist, and "Uhura," who is a sniper. It would appear that the group makes up the main cast of Ghosts, with Ahn serving as a support role of some sort.
The past two Ghost Recon games, Wildlands and Breakpoint, took players to Bolivia and "Auroa," a fictional South Pacific island, respectively. It marked a return to the franchise's realism-based roots, as previous titles took place in the future, including Future Soldier and both Advanced Warfare titles. That said, both Wildlands and Breakpoint differed from past titles by making them open world adventures akin to other Ubisoft franchises, whereas Ghost Recon as a franchise has roots in tactical linear shooting.
It remains to be seen which direction this reported project will go in, though a return to single player roots would be a welcome sight. That's because there's been a dearth of shooter campaigns as of late, outside of Call of Duty. Recently, rumors began swirling that the next Battlefield game would have a campaign. With all of this, perhaps a return to the 2010s era of shooter campaigns is on the horizon.
