Requiring your Sim to complete several high-quality paintings, master the Painting skill, and spend time viewing art for inspiration, Sims who complete the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration unlock the ability to create emotional paintings, regardless of their own mood. It’s also a lucrative aspiration, once you sell your work!

Painter Extraordinaire Aspiration Overview

For those most artistically-inclined Sims, the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration is available in the base game of The Sims 4.

Sims that pursue this aspiration will need to spend hours upon hours painting artwork at their easels, consistently pushing themselves for good-quality work as they improve.

In all, you'll need to master the Painting skill before finishing the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration, which allows your Sim to create all sizes of all art types.

Along the way, you'll need to paint masterpieces, delightfully rare occasions that result in much higher selling prices than high-quality paintings.

Reward Trait: Expressionistic

Once you've finished the last task in your final milestone of the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration, your Sim will receive the Expressionistic reward trait.

Expressionistic Sims have mastered the medium of emotion, and as such, they can paint emotional paintings no matter their own mood.

Since some of the emotional paintings require extended durations of being Angry or Playful - emotions that can be fatal if pushed too far - this is a good way to complete your painting collection without risking your life.

Helpful Traits And Rewards

Since you'll need a wealth of Inspiration as the ideal mood for the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration, you'd do well to give your Sim the Creative Trait.

Creative Sims are more apt to naturally feel Inspired throughout the day, leading to plenty of time best spent painting.

Art Lover allows your Sim to view art through a more critical lens, letting them draw Inspiration from the works they're seeing.

Finally, though the Perfectionist trait means your Sim takes longer to create their work, if you're looking to earn more money along the way, these Sims are more likely to create masterpieces.

And when it comes to careers that pair well with the aspiration, the Painter Extraordinaire doesn't require you to be in the Painter career.

You'll likely be making enough money with your artwork alone, making the formal career an unnecessary but fun addition to your gameplay.

That said, you'll unlock a new easel at Level Eight of the Painter career regardless of the branch you've pursued, which makes your Sim more likely to create masterpieces when you paint on them versus the regular easel.

With several masterpieces required for the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration in The Sims 4, being involved in the Painter career is a good way to boost your chances of painting a masterpiece without using cheats to access the other easels.

Every Milestone In The Painter Extraordinaire Aspiration

In this section of our guide, we've detailed all four milestones of the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration,

Here, we detail each task you'll need to complete, as well as provide some notes, tips, and hyperlinks to other guides that may help you in your pursuit of artistic greatness.

Painter Extraordinaire Aspiration Milestones And How To Complete Them

Milestone

Task

Notes

Ill at Easel

Start 3 Paintings While Inspired.

If your Sim is Creative, they may find themselves Inspired naturally. If not, Take a Thoughtful Shower on any shower to find Inspiration manually, and then, while Inspired, begin three total paintings. If you'd like to cheese this task a little, you can have your Sim start a painting, stop immediately, scrap it, and start again, repeating the process until the task is complete for the milestone.

Paint for 5 Hours While Inspired.

You may not want to cheese the task above, though, as your Sim needs to spend five hours at their easel feeling Inspired while they paint. Again, Take Thoughtful Showers, View Art as an Art Lover, or rely on natural Creativity for Inspiration before getting to work on your paintings.

Fine Artist

Reach Level 4 of the Painting Skill.

This doesn't have any specific art style requirements, nor does it measure what you do with the paintings when you're finished. You simply need to paint or read Painting skill books until your Sim hits Level Four in the Painting skill.

Sell 3 Paintings to Collectors or the Art Gallery.

After finishing a painting, you'll have the option to sell to either a Collector or to the ambiguous Art Gallery (though your Sim's work doesn't ever seem to appear at the Museums). You can choose either to complete this aspiration, but selling to the Art Gallery nets a higher income than to a Collector. Additionally, it nets more Fame if you're playing with Get Famous.

Complete 3 Emotional Paintings.

It doesn't matter which emotion your Sim uses, but for gameplay's sake, it's helpful to create a couple different paintings to use depending on your mood or future requirements. Angry, Confident, Flirty, Focused, Playful, or Sad are all good choices for paintings.

Brushing with Greatness

Reach Level 6 of the Painting Skill.

Again, you'll reach this naturally as you pursue the other tasks in the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration, but you need to reach Level Six of the Painting skill either way to complete this task.

View (or Admire) 3 Paintings at a Museum.

Bring your Sim to any Museum lot (there are a few throughout the various worlds), and have them view three paintings while they're there. If the Sim is an Art Lover, they'll have the "Admire" interaction instead of "View." This can be completed in a single outing to the Museum, so long as your Sim checks out three individual pieces on their trip. If you're romancing another Sim, take them on a date to the Museum, check out the art while you're there, and score some sweet points with your sweetie in the process.

Complete 10 Excellent Paintings.

Your Sim is more apt to do this if they have the Creative Visionary or Marketable reward traits unlocked through the rewards store. Otherwise, being of a high skill level and painting while highly Inspired is helpful. Additionally, the easels that unlock at Level Eight of the Painter career paths boost painting quality, too, meaning you're more apt to paint noteworthy works while using those easels.

Painter Extraordinaire

Reach Level 10 of the Painting skill.

Your Sim needs to master their Painting skill before they can complete the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration. This does not take into account whether they were part of the formal Painter career, simply whether they've mastered the skill.

Paint 5 Masterpieces.

Whether you keep or sell them is completely up to you, but between natural Inspiration, the improved easels from the Painter career, or the Creative Visionary and Marketable Satisfaction Point unlocks, your Sim needs to paint five masterpiece paintings over the course of their entire life.

Players with the Get Famous expansion pack installed stand to gain a reliable amount of fame from selling their paintings to the Art Gallery, making this a fully valid way to become a famous artist in The Sims 4.
