PostsThe Spear is easily the strongest weapon type, and for good reason, especially while facing regular enemies. Some skills make wielding the Spear a lot easier, but due to the limited Skill Points in the early game, it can be a challenge to figure out which ones are worth it.
Best Spear Skills
The Spear playstyle focuses on quick rush-down thrusts that don't give any opportunity for the target to recover, while also depleting their Stagger bar. This weapon relies on continuous offense but also has some great defensive tools that can help you survive in the heat of battle against bosses and elite enemies.
Wielding a Spear also makes it easy to deal with multiple enemies at once, because some attacks cover your surrounding area. The variety in the Spear Skill Tree is huge and that also makes it a little complicated compared to other weapon types, and it may take some time for you to fully master the use of every ability.
Best Swift Attack Skills
The Swift Attack category in the Skill Treefocuses on quick melee attacks. This category features the Moonlight Stance ability, which enhances a lot of your options, such as enhancing the damage of a brutal attack or making Khazan damage the enemy target after performing a Brink Dodge.

Skill Name
Description
Moonlight
Unlocking the Moonlight skill turns the third attack of the Spear's light attack combo into a horizontal slash instead of a thrust.
Moonlight Stance 3/3
Attacking an enemy with the Moonlight attack lets Khazan enter the Moonlight Stance, which improves the damage of your attacks and grants all the other unlocked abilities of the Moonlight Stance tree. Just getting one point into it is enough in the beginning, and you can level it up further as you progress toward the late game.
Full Moon 3/3
There are a total of eight different options branching from the Moonlight Stance node in the Swift Attack skill tree, but you don't need to level up all of them. The Full Moon ability is the one you'll be using the most often while fighting against hordes of enemies and is worth investing in at least one point. This skill enhances your charged attacks while you're in the Moonlight Stance, giving you an area-wide sweep instead of the regular charged attack.
Best Potent Blow Skills
The Potent Blow Skill Tree features multiple abilities that can be used to deal significant damage to the enemy. Each of these abilities is strong, but you can further strengthen them by upgrading them.
Spear's Potent Blow Skills
Skill Name
Description
Zero Point
Zero Point can be executed after a sprint attack or a Potent Attack. Unlocking this skill enables you to do thrust attacks repeatedly and inflict significant damage.
Zero Point: Fortress
Zero Point: Fortress enhances the damage dealt by using the Zero Point attack.
Spiral Thrust 3/3
The Spiral Thrust skill lets you attack your target from the front with a long-range thrusting attack that deals a ton of damage at the cost of one Spirit Charge. It's very useful for closing the distance between you and the target.
Afterimage Thrust 3/3
The Afterimage Thrust skill features Khazan repeatedly striking the enemy with quick thrusts and then unleashing a single powerful thrust as the final blow. This ability consumes one Spirit Charge on the cast, but you can hold down the input to continue the attack at the cost of an additional Spirit Charge.
Best Chain Skills
The Chain Skill Tree includes multiple skills that you can use in tandem with other abilities. Some of these abilities are incredibly strong, such as the Shadow Reversal, and can even let you bring down targets that are far stronger than you.
Spear's Chain Skills
Skill Name
Description
Shadow Reversal
The Shadow Reversal skill allows you to attack an enemy, and if they're weak, you can shove them around, exposing their backs to you. You can level up the Shadow Reversal: Impact and the Shadow Reversal: Penetrate skill to increase the damage of this attack and that would also increase the variety of enemies that you can stab in the back with the Spear.
Assault
The Assault skill and all of its successive nodes in the Chain Skill Tree perform very similarly to the Shadow Reversal. You can use the Assault skill in the middle of regular attacks. However, keep in mind that you can only equip one skill at a time between Shadow Reversal and the Assault.
Trance
The Trance ability and all of its upgrades are strong, but using them is very complicated. It's best to leave this skill for the late-game when you have unlocked many other abilities to use it with. The Trance ability can be chained with any other ability that you have equipped, such as the Zero Point or Spiral Thrust ability.
Best Shrewd Skills
The Shrewd category in Spear's skill tree focuses on mobility, including dodging and sprinting attacks. Mastering the skills in the Shrewd skill tree will not only allow you to evade with precision but also approach the target with efficiency.
Spear's Shrewd Skills
Skill Name
Description
Quick Slash
The quick slash skill allows you to immediately close the distance between you and the target and unleash a thrust attack after performing a Brink Dodge.
Vital Strike
The Vital Strike skill lets Khazan perform a jumping Potent Blow attack after a sprint.
Shadow Strike 3/3
This ability allows Khazan to crouch down and then unleash two big swings of the Spear for one Spirit Charge. If you've also unlocked the Shadow Strike: Relics skill, you will be invulnerable during the crouching animation.
Crescent Strike 3/3
Jump into the air and bring down your Spear to attack the target on the ground. This attack consumes one Spirit Charge, but if you've unlocked the Crescent Strike: Massacre skill, you can press the input again to perform a strong horizontal strike coated in the Phantom Blade's energy.
Best Guard Skills
The Guard skill tree gives you multiple options for your defense and, since the bosses like to attack so much in this game, you'll have to invest some points here as well to make sure you're not only blocking the attacks of your target for no reward.
Spear's Guard Skills
Skill Name
Description
Endurance 3/3
The Endurance skill reduces the stamina cost of guarding. Keep in mind that even performing a Brink Guard consumes a little stamina.
Breakdown
The Breakdown skill is one of the most important skills in the Guard Skill Tree. It deals increased stamina damage to your target after you've perfectly performed a Brink Guard against them, which will make them stagger more quickly so you can unleash a Brutal Attack.
Rod Smite
The Rod Smite skill is your counterattack option. You can press the light attack button immediately after performing a Guard or a Brink Guard to make Khazan strike the attacking target with his weapon.
Phantom: Heatwave
The Phantom: Heatwave consumes two Spirit Charges and allows Khazan to spin his Spear on his sides. Any attack that lands on Khazan while this ability is in effect is automatically blocked by a Brink Guard. This skill might be slightly complicated to use, but it is a great option to counter enemies that attack you repeatedly in quick succession.
Eagle Wind 3/3
The Eagle Wind skill lets you swing your Spear around to deal damage to the enemy up to three times. Each swing consumes a Spirit Charge and deals increased stamina damage than the previous swing. Furthermore, if you've unlocked the Eagle Wind: Gale ability, the swings will unleash ranged projectile slashes that will not only deal damage to the enemy but also destroy any projectiles in its path.
