New ESO Thieves Guild Quest Only Lets One Player In At A Time
I remember way back in 2016 when The Division launched and everyone politely formed a line to... speak with an NPC. It was a little bizarre, but it happens more often than you'd think. World of Warcraft is no stranger to massive lines, while Final Fantasy 14 went through the exact same thing with Raubahn Savage. Even now—with the release of Season One: Return of the Thieves Guild—queues are forming in The Elder Scrolls Online.
To start the new quest, you must enter the Yvierry Estate—the problem is that only one player can lockpick the gate at a time. So, what initially began as a "massive horde" crowded around the entrance, desperately trying to get inside, eventually straightened into an orderly queue. "We collectively decided to form a line that stretches almost back to the wayshrine," Reddit user nick_the_dude_ said. "There's movement in the line every 5–10 minutes."
Commenters chimed in with their own screenshots, showing just how far back the line stretches, and OP even claimed to have stumbled on a new "waiting in line" guild specifically made for the quest. "I'm really surprised there is a nice and formal line!" commented RogueFoxGaming. "Someone even called out a cutter. It was chaos trying to get in when I was there earlier. There were only 10 of us surrounding the gate that time and someone was barely suggesting a line."
"The Door Apparently Cannot Handle So Many People Trying To Enter"
Of course, that doesn't mean that the entirety of the server (in this case, PC NA) is waiting to enter the estate one-by-one. As explained by JoeGibbon, a self-prescribed "old tech guy," there will be hundreds of players who have made it through, and "the rest are let in whenever one of the people already in leave," hence the 5–10 minute wait between movements. It's a little annoying, but it's an MMO staple at this point.
Though not everyone has been so lucky as to find themselves waiting in line at the ESO theme park. Reddit user trigen posted a PSA to the game's subreddit, warning that "there is currently an indefinite waiting time for the first new Thieves Guild quest," attaching a photo of a small crowd around the entrance. "The door apparently cannot handle so many people trying to enter at the same time," they explained. "Efforts to form a queue failed so far."
Advice ranges from waiting to reloading the game to even just spamming faster. I'm with AVerifiedPig, though: "That is funny but I will be avoiding this for now."
