But getting your hands on these powers will prove tricky. You'll need to best these endgame bosses first before you can claim their power. This guide will explain how these boss powers work, how to unlock them, and give a rundown of what all 24 powers do in Diablo 4: Belial's Return.

What Are Boss Powers?

Boss powers are a seasonal mechanic added in Season 8: Belial's Return. Upon defeating bosses in Sanctuary, you will receive a small fragment of their power. You can socket these powers into your character through the "Boss Powers" tab of your inventory, similar to Vampiric Powers from the second season.

Each power comes with two modifiers:

  • Main: Grants you a powerful ability that triggers under certain conditions, usually mimicking the boss it dropped from.
  • Modifier: Grants passive buffs to your character or augments your main boss power.

You may have a maximum of one main power and three modifiers active at a time.

Unlocking Boss Powers

Boss powers are acquired by slaying Diablo 4's endgame bosses. The name of the boss power denotes the drop source. For example, if you want to get Beast in the Ice's Sleet attack, you'll need to defeat Beast in the Ice in their boss lair. In general, magic powers come from seasonal activities, rare powers come from lair bosses, and legendary powers drop from pinnacle bosses.

Upgrading Boss Powers

Upgrading a boss power will require the use of Spirit Powder, a seasonal currency awarded from Apparition Incursions and other Belial-themed content. To upgrade your boss power, simply hover over the power in your "Boss Powers" UI and hold the upgrade button. Each upgrade gets progressively more expensive, so be sure you're focusing on upgrading powers that benefit your build.
