Va Fail, Elaine is one of The Witcher 3's most significant quests. Not only will Geralt and Yennefer finally unveil Uma's true identity, but they will also use the Trial of the Grasses to do so. It is the same process that mutates each witcher from an ordinary boy to an inhumanly skilled monster hunter.

The witchers' revulsion toward the process makes it clear just how dangerous and horrific the procedure is, as will the quest's content. It's hard to watch and easy to have doubts. If you are uncertain about the procedure, this guide will help you conduct the Trial.

How To Brew The Decoctions Of The Grasses

At the start of the quest, after Ugly Baby's drunken (or otherwise boring) escapades, Geralt wakes up in time to help Yennefer with her plan. Vesemir had tried a less invasive method to no avail, leaving no other option but to use the Trial of the Grasses.

After a brief cutscene explaining the procedure, Geralt will have to go to the nearby table to collect the alchemical ingredients used to create the mutagens.

With the ingredients in hand, open the Alchemy tab in your menu and navigate to the Quests tab at the bottom. Brew the ingredients like any other potion to continue.

As Yennefer states, it does not matter what order you use the potions in. Regardless of which potion you release first, Uma will suffer.

As tempting as it may be, saying "Stop, this is a bad idea" will not change anything. It's too late to turn back now.

The quest will continue after all three have been dispensed. At this point the witchers have done their part, leaving the outcome of the procedure on Yennefer's effort.

While you still have more dialogue choices to make, none of the remaining choices have an effect on the quest's outcome. Thanks to Yennefer's knowledge and the witchers' reluctant effort, the procedure is successful.

This quest starts The Isle of Mists, a cutoff point for most of the game's quests. Make sure to tie up any loose ends before looking for Ciri.
