The Witcher 3, like any self-respecting fantasy game, has werewolves in it. These mythical creatures are typically cursed humans that are doomed to transform into a wolf-like form at night. While the specifics of the curse differ between fictional universes and even between cases in Geralt's world, becoming a werewolf is generally considered to be a bad thing.

Geralt will cross paths with several werewolves during his adventure, though not all encounters are as memorable. The unmarked quest Call of the Wild, found in Skellige, is a seemingly random encounter with a werewolf and its pack of ordinary wolves in the woods.

Starting Call Of The Wild

This quest starts on the eastern road out of Arinbjorn, at night. You will likely hear the howling of wolves before running into the pack shortly after. The encounter consists solely of killing your assailants, without any dialogue involved.

Arinbjorn plays host to the witcher Contract: The Phantom Of Eldberg. You might end up fighting the werewolf by traveling to the town at night.

If you are so inclined, you can ride past the group without fighting. The rewards are meager at best, and you will not miss out on anything important by avoiding the quest.

Defeating The Pack

Fighting both the pack of wolves and the werewolf is more annoying than it sounds. The wolves, being ordinary animals, are vulnerable to steel swords. In contrast, the werewolf is vulnerable to silver swords. Geralt will switch between weapons, attempting to match the sword to the target. Unfortunately, this can lead you to missing opportunities.

Start with the wolves, sticking to a steel sword until the pack is dead. This will stop the wolves from continually lunging at you, letting you focus on the larger and deadlier werewolf.

The werewolf is the run-of-the-mill variety, with the usual attacks and health that you would expect from such a beast. Pay particular attention to its lunging claw swipes when there is sufficient distance. The encounter will end when its life does.
