Chests will always be a necessary, organizational, aesthetic, and storage-related component of the game. But with such a wide array of craftable chests, each with their own unique crafting station and material requirements, it can be overwhelming to figure out which chests to choose.

Thankfully, your curiosity about which craftable chests are the most unique and fashionable is easily satiated; all you have to do is read on.

Chests were chosen primarily for their unique designs, shapes, and color palettes. Biome key chests, such as Hallowed or Jungle Chests, were not included, as they use Shimmer instead of actual crafting components.

9 Bamboo Chests

Where to craft

Any Workbench

Resources needed

8 Bamboo, 2 Iron or Lead Bars

Thanks to their lighter green and brown color palette, Bamboo Chests naturally enhance any nature-inspired or jungle-based build. If you happen to be building a tree house, East Asian-inspired temple, or an animal sanctuary, go ahead and give this chest a try.

In terms of shape, it's about what you'd expect a chest to look like; square and blocky. In terms of design choices, though, the woven texture on the light brown parts of the chest enhance the nature-like aesthetic. Sadly, unlike Minecraft, vanilla Terraria doesn't have the perfect, accompanying animal for this chest: pandas.

8 Corruption And Crimson Biome Chests

Where to craft

Decay Chamber | Flesh Cloning Vat

Resources needed

8 Lesion or Flesh Blocks, 2 Iron or Lead Bars

Frankly, Lesion and Flesh chests are rather grotesque, but that's exactly what you're looking for if you want to properly accentuate any sinister structure you might be building in Crimson or the Corruption biomes.

While both chests have a more or less blocky shape, this isn't a problem, as the deep colors, fleshy textures, and creepy eyeballs are what catch your attention first. If you need build ideas, the Flesh Chests would be perfect for a bloody dungeon, while Lesion Blocks would suit a necromancer's lair nicely.

7 Obsidian Chests

Where to craft

Any Work Bench

Resources needed

6 Obsidian, 2 Hellstone, 2 Iron or Lead Bars

If you're building in the Underworld, or you just hauled a bunch of Underworld-related blocks, furniture, and materials back up to the surface, you're practically obligated to use Obsidian Chests; by design, they're made to suit the Underworld aesthetic.

While Obsidian chests are mostly dark black, the glowing, fiery accents give a sinister, almost Hades-inspired vibe. If you can't find a way to fit this chest into a build, its design will at least be a great visual indicator of, and storage place for, Underworld-associated items.

6 Glass Chests

Where to craft

Glass Kiln

Resources needed

8 Glass, 2 Iron or Lead Bars

Glass Chests are the only craftable chest that make use of transparency in their design. While you'll still need to work with the bright white and blue accents, and a dark centerpiece, the transparent aspect makes this chest viable with a greater variety of background wall colors and textures.

If you feel like building a big castle in the middle of a snowy biome, or a secret, icy cave base, the almost frozen appearance of Glass Chests makes for a great pairing for both of those projects.

5 Martian Chests

Where to craft

Any Work Bench

Resources needed

8 Martian Conduit Plating, 2 Iron or Lead Bars

If you've done the Martian Invasion event recently, you probably have a ton of Martian Conduit Plating lying around. If so, why not make some Martian Chests? They'd be great for futuristic, sci-fi builds, like a flying saucer or futuristic space base.

With the bright, white-blue accents making it look like it's humming with energy, paired with a unique, dome-like top-half, the Martian Chest is built to be an eye-catcher. Try using plain, darker background walls to complement this chest as a centerpiece of a room.

4 Meteorite Chests

Where to craft

Any Work Bench

Resources needed

8 Meteorite Brick, 2 Iron or Lead Bars

If you've already crafted a full set of Meteor armor and a Space Gun, Meteorite Chests are a great use for any surplus Meteorite lying around. Although the purplish base and glowing, bright orange dome on top can make it difficult to work with at first glance, give this chest a chance.

The unique shape and color scheme simply means the Meteorite Chest requires a bit more creativity and thinking than others. If you're really stumped, you could try a Halloween-themed build, or if you're a fan of Baldur's Gate 3, an Illithid lair.

3 Mushroom Chests

Where to craft

Any Work Bench

Resources needed

8 Glowing Mushrooms, 2 Iron or Lead Bars

If you want to make your Truffle NPC feel more at home, you should give them at least one Mushroom Chest alongside their furniture. While the subdued white flesh and dark, blue-purple spots can pair well in a variety of settings, you can't go wrong placing this chest in a cave or underground environment.

Although, while this chest works just fine in Terraria, it makes you wonder just how long a chest made out of mushrooms would last in real life. In terms of practical security, it'd probably be rather unreliable.

2 Reef Chests

Where to craft

Any Work Bench

Resources needed

8 Reef Block, 2 Iron or Lead Bars

Reef Chests are one of, if not the most spherical craftable chests in the game. Paired with their ridged texture, clam-like design, and monochromatic, pink color palette, Reef Chests are the best option for an underwater or ocean-inspired build; bring some Sponges to soak up the water during construction.

Given the soft, rounded shape, this chest fits most naturally with cute, playful aesthetics and themes. If you're a big fan of Disney Dreamlight Valley, you could pair this chest with what you imagine Ariel's home would look like in the Terraria universe.

1 Shadewood Chests

Where to craft

Any Work Bench

Resources needed

8 Shadewood, 2 Iron or Lead Bars

To make a Shadewood Chest, you'll either have to play on a world where Crimson biomes are present, which is where Shadewood trees grow, or toss regular wood into a pool of Shimmer, as those are the only ways to obtain Shadewood.

Thankfully, these chests are pretty cheap to craft, and have a nice contrast going on between the dark, decrepit wood tone, and rich, red accents. While you could throw this chest into a room full of Shadewood furniture, you could also try to see how it works in builds inspired by Japanese or Chinese architecture.
