Once you've found a general spawn location, you won't ever have to travel very far to get more turtle shells or meat. Like in real life, you can find turtles near the sandy areas of the map where they go to lay their eggs, allowing you to collect their shells with ease.

Where To Get Turtle Shells

The best opportunity to find turtles is on the beaches that make up the coast of the island since that's where the sea turtles will go to nest. Keep your eyes peeled for the distinctive shapes of sea turtles sunbathing on the sand. They also seem to cluster together around nests, which means you should be able to find plenty of turtles together.

You can collect small white turtle eggs at the base of the water near the turtles.

Once you find a turtle, you'll need to severely damage it by attacking its head or other soft parts of the body. When it's dead, a knife prompt will appear, and you can skin the animal. This will remove the turtle's shell and add it to your inventory. There will also be meat under the shell you can grab.

How To Use Turtle Shells

Once you get a turtle shell, you can find it in the top right section of your inventory. You can't combine it with anything in your inventory, but it's a vital crafting resource for your survival.

The primary use of a turtle shell is to craft rain catchers, which can provide a constant stream of fresh water for you to drink from. This will be dependent on there being rain after you place the rain catcher, however.
