PostsIf you are currently winning your rounds and suddenly took the Present and started losing, you must be wondering why anyone would ever take this item in the first place. It completely changes your playstyle. Here's everything you need to know when taking the unique Present accessory.
Backpack Battles is still in early access. The information in this guide is subject to change. It will be amended as needed, so feel free to check back for updates.
What Is A Present?
The Present is a unique accessory that is neutral (available to all classes) and takes up 4x4 in your backpack. When placed inside your backpack, it has the following effects:
- When entering the shop, you'll receive items of a higher value instead of gold.
- At the start of a battle, gain five random buffs.
The Present's shop mechanics only work for the round after you have purchased it from the shop. You'll receive random items, including exclusive items from other classes, which makes the Present extremely powerful and heavily based on luck. These items are high-value, and you can receive more than four items per round.
Even if you aren't earning gold anymore, you can still sell the items you don't need for gold and play normally by buying items from the shop. You don't normally get the value back, since selling expensive items has a reduced selling price by more than half its value.
However, the trade-off is quite fair, since you always have the chance to get something amazing, even if some of them don't fit the synergy of your current build. If they don't, you get a few gold pieces to buy more backpack slots, which is the main problem if you get the Present early in the game.
You can still get backpack slots from the Present's effects, but if you are unlucky, you have no way of increasing your backpack size. You can get all the items you need or want but end up with no space to place these incredible items.
How To Get The Present
The Present falls under the "Neutral" category for unique items, meaning it can essentially show up to everyone, regardless of their class. However, the chance of finding a unique item is low. At the same time, finding the Present is even more minuscule because several other neutral unique items can appear in the shop.
The Customer Card
There's a way you can increase your chances of finding unique items, but it also involves a little bit of luck. In Backpack Battles, there's an item called a Customer Card, which increases the rarity of one item in the shop every time you refresh it.
The card increases your chances of finding one, but you can also combine two Customer Cards and create a Platinum Customer Card. That increases your chances of finding a unique item by ten percent, specifically.
The earlier you get this card, the faster you can capitalize on rerolling your shop to find a unique item. Taking these cards doesn't take up much space in your bag, but it does require some investment, so you would be a little weaker compared to others who spent their gold powering up.
If you plan on buying Customer Cards, you should avoid buying other items generally considered investment items like the Piggybank and the Box of Riches. These items provide little to no power for your character.
If you spend all your early gold on all these items, you'll lose all your tries and eventually lose the game before you can even reap the rewards of your investment.
Should You Take The Present?
Generally, you always want to take the Present. However, some extremely niche builds will want to stave away from getting the unique item. For example, a Berserker class that chooses a subclass like a Shaman will have a better chance of finding what they need. Since the Shaman wants all the gemstones, they will show up more by using a Box of Riches rather than a Present.
If you see the Present in your shop, you might as well take it. Once you have learned most of the builds you are playing, then you can contemplate between getting it or not. Getting the Present is extremely rare in itself, and the fun it brings outweighs every what-ifs you have in creating your build.
