Keeping Biomass Burners running can be tedious, because you have to manually gather the resources they need to run. Luckily, this process can be streamlined slightly once you unlock the Chainsaw. Below, we'll take a look at how to unlock, craft, and use the Chainsaw.

How To Unlock The Chainsaw

The Chainsaw is unlocked from the Obstacle Clearing Milestone in Tier 2, which is unlocked after completing the onboarding process (the tutorial of the game). To complete the Obstacle Clearing Milestone, you'll need to deliver the following materials to the HUB terminal in your base.

  • 500 Screw
  • 100 Cable
  • 100 Concrete

Screws are made from Iron Rods, Cables from two Wire, and Concrete from three Limestone. Once you've produced enough items, toss them into the terminal and the Obstacle Clearing Milestone will be complete, unlocking the Chainsaw, Solid Biofuel, and three additional inventory slots.

Once you've unlocked the Chainsaw, you'll need to build one. This is done at the Equipment Workshop, and requires the following materials.

  • 5 Reinforced Iron Plate
  • 25 Iron Rod
  • 160 Screw
  • 15 Cable

How To Use The Chainsaw

To use the Chainsaw, you need to power it using Solid Biofuel, which is crafted from Biomass, which is in turn crafted from flora like wood and leaves. As long as you have Solid Biomass in your inventory, you can use the Chainsaw.

The Chainsaw is used to cut down trees that can't be harvested by hand, yielding high amounts of wood and leaves that you can then craft into Biomass to fuel your Biomass Burners. With the Chainsaw equipped, approach the flora and hold down left click to harvest it.

The Chainsaw has two modes: Area and Single. In Area mode, the Chainsaw will harvest every valid object within a 5-meter radius of the highlighted object. In Single mode, only the highlighted object will be harvested. This can be useful if you want to avoid cutting down a berry bush or some other natural formation.
