Similar to many other classic role-playing games, Super Mario RPG wouldn't be complete without a perplexing maze area that tests your puzzle-solving and pattern-recognizing skills. In fact, there are few places to get lost in this game, but the one we’re focusing on here is the Forest Maze.

The Forest Maze isn’t terribly long, but there are only two correct ways to pass through it. Trying to follow anything but those two will lead you right back to the maze’s entrance.

How To Follow Geno Through The Maze

You are only required to pass through the maze once. After Geno comes to life, he will immediately depart for the forest. You need to follow him there. And once you reach the forest's maze, you need to play an impromptu game of “follow the leader” with him so you can copy the route he takes through it.

The maze is made up of six nearly identical screens. Each has an open center area and four exits. The only significant changes are the types and quantities of enemies that dwell in them. You can avoid or fight the enemies as you make your way through the maze.

Again, the way you reach the maze is by following Geno. But, if you lose track of which exit he took, you can use the chart below to figure out which one it was. All you need to do is make sure you know which screen you’re currently on.

After passing through the sixth exit, you’ll reach the end of the maze. This is where you’ll finally meet Geno. It’s also where you team up with him and fight the area’s boss, Bowyer.

How To Find The Maze’s Hidden Treasure

The second reason you’d want to explore the Forest Maze is to find some extra treasure. To find this route, you’ll first need to help the Toad, who has been locked out of his home in Rose Town. You can find him standing next to the cliff his house is on in the northern part of town.

Jump on top of his head and then jump to reach his home. Go inside and then up the stairs to find his son and a green switch. Jump on the switch to make some stairs leading from the ground outside to his home appear.

When you go outside, he will come up the steps and enter his home. Follow him back inside and speak with him again. At this point, he will show his thanks by telling you a secret route you can follow in the Forest Maze to find the secret area.

Return to the start of the maze and follow the route he told you to find a number of chests that contain goodies such as Mushrooms, Flowers to max out FP and a Frog Coin.
