Most video games have two types of currency: currency exchanged for run-of-the-mill items and fancy stuff you cash in for the big prizes. (Some games have a third "premium" currency that costs real money, but this guide isn't about live-service gaming.) Rise Of The Ronin's "fancy" currency is metallic rectangles called Silver Coins.

If you're anything like us, you struggle to manage the bills in your wallet, let alone the various currencies in a video game. And it can be a pain remembering what money you can spend where. That's why we gathered our bank notes to break down what Silver Coins are, how to get them, and where to spend them.

What Are Silver Coins?

Silver Coins are a unique currency you can exchange for exclusive prizes in Rise Of The Ronin. Unlike regular coins, Silver Coins require more effort to earn. They won't drop from defeated enemies. Instead, you must complete specific tasks to get more Silver Coins.

Once you rake in enough Silver Coins to spend, you'll notice that many items you can buy still have additional requirements to unlock. For example, you can't purchase the Executive Silk Hat from Usugumo Dayu's Cat Collection store until you collect 48 cats.

How Do I Get Silver Coins?

You can get Silver Coins by completing Rise Of The Ronin's side missions. Four mission types reward Silver Coins.

Cat Collecting

One way you can earn Silver Coins is by collecting cats. Yes, you heard us correctly. But why cats? Usugumo Dayu, a courtesan of Miyozaki's Pleasure District, owns dozens (possibly hundreds) of cats. Unfortunately, the cats ran off and are currently without a home. It's up to you to rescue these felines and reunite them with Usugumo.

Finding cats is straightforward once you build your Area Bond high enough. Raising your Area Bond level in a new region will reveal cat-shaped icons on the map. These icons indicate where you'll find the cats. All you have to do is approach the cat, then press and hold R1 to pet it.

Calico cats are incredibly fussy. Unlike other felines, you must quietly approach Calico cats without startling them. Use your stealth techniques in these situations. (Just remember not to assassinate the cat).

Defeating Fugitives

Restoring public order is a significant way to raise your Area Bond with a region. One way to encourage peace is wiping out bandits in Unruly Areas. The other part of establishing order is taking down fugitives.

Fugitives are mini-bosses that you'll earn a Silver Coin bounty for defeating. They're often leaders of bandit gangs in Unruly Areas, but not always. Sometimes, a fugitive could be the local dog grave digging in the cemetery.

Raising your Area Bond in a region will reveal the locations of its fugitives on the map. These locations are designated with an octagonal icon with two horizontal lines inside it.

Photography Missions

After completing the "Locating The Camera" mission for Igashichi Iizuka, you'll learn how to use your new prototype camera. With the camera in your loadout, you can now pursue Photography Missions.

To accept a Photography Mission, talk to the Photography Studio clerk. He'll have a list of in-demand images you may take on. Go to these notable locales, get your photo, and report to the Photography Studio to claim your Silver Coin reward!

Training

Training facilities offer challenges you can complete to win prizes. The base completion reward for these challenges is Silver Coins. You can train in the following areas:

  • Firearm Training: Shoot down targets with your firearm and reach the point minimum within the time limit.
  • Horseback Archery: Shoot down targets with your bow while riding your horse to the finish line as fast as possible.
  • Dojo Training: Compete in sparring matches against your fellow ronin. Points are awarded based on technique, speed, and health points retained.
  • Glider Training: Steer your glider through as many targets as possible before reaching the end of the course or running out of Ki.
