In real life, peat and sod are pretty common – and pretty important – for farming and a lot of other things, and it's the same in Fields of Mistria. Both of them have a variety of uses, such as being asked for in requests and different crafting recipes like for the Campfire or Potted Plant.

PostsUnlike Clay and some other materials, you can't buy either of them from the General Store or Landen and Ryis' Carpentry Shop. If you want to get either of these materials to make decorations or something else, you'll have to get your Shovel and Pickaxe ready and do a bit of exploring.
How To Get Peat And Sod
Before you can find Peat and Sod, you'll first need to get yourself any kind of shovel or pickaxe: the Worn Shovel can be purchased from the General Store for 500 Tesserae, while the Worn Pickaxeisgiven to you by Olric during one of the introductory missions, Do A Bro A Favor.
You don't need an upgraded tool to find Peat or Sod, as the upgrades only increase the amount of tiles you can hit at once, not the types of items dropped.
Next, you'll need to search for raised mounds in the grass around Mistria, and these can appear in random spots in any location except for the town square and your farm, such as The Narrows or The Eastern Road. Use either the Shovel or the Pickaxe to dig up these spots, and each one will have a chance to drop Sod or Peat, thoughyou may get Clay or an Artifact instead.
It's also possible to find both Sod and Peat when you're in the Mines, both from digging up cracked or raised mounds in the ground there, and there's a slight chance for them to drop when breaking any of the smaller rocks inside.
You can invest in the Unpeatable skill in the Archaeology Skill Tree to give yourself a chance to get double the Peat or Sod when digging.
The archeology sites like The Western Ruins have an increased number of raised mounds and still give you a chance to get Sod or Peat from them, especially once you unlock more of them with the Scholar-type archaeology Skills. The only downside to them is they have an increased chance of finding artifacts, so you're more likely to not get what you want from them compared to the random ones or the Mines.
